TikTok Tarot Readers: can we trust them?

TikTok Tarot Readers: can we trust them?

If you’re even minorly spiritual or slightly delusional, you’ve probably seen the Tarot readers on TikTok. Maybe you fell into the trap where, while you were minding your own business, scrolling along your FYP, you watched one of their videos, and now you’re trapped in an endless sea of Tarot content. Or maybe that’s just me.

Tarot readers online: the big TarotTok phenomenon

If you’re unaware of TarotTok, there’s an entire world of seemingly endless Tarot card readers, clairvoyants, and those who commune with the universe on TikTok and share what they learn with the collective. These are people who pull Tarot cards and offer general readings to whoever the video finds. Essentially, they believe that if the video comes across your FYP, it might be for a reason, and they might have a message for you from the universe. Whether you believe them or not, it’s very easy to get caught up in their messages. They cover a wide range of topics, including money, career, life, relationships, etc. However, most focus on love. These love readings are super popular on TikTok, which is a good indicator that these Tarot readers are catering to their audiences. While not necessarily a bad thing, it does make one wonder if the messages they communicate are another form of view-bait. Their messages are always broad, however, sometimes they’re oddly specific to your life, so who knows?

Can we trust them? The backlash

So, which is it? Are these Tarot-tokers communing with the divine and providing clarity, or are they leaning into the delusions of those chronically online? Some say these clairvoyants are just feeding delusions, telling people what they want to hear, and using the authority of a “higher power” to establish themselves. The backlash stems from the fact that these people don’t understand the responsibility and power they carry. There are a lot of impressionable people on social media, and some might see these videos, hear something that relates to their lives, and hold onto this message even if it’s completely made up

And the people who believe them

On the other hand, there are people flooding some of the comment sections with affirmations that these Tarot readers have provided clarity, helped them realize more about themselves and the situation, and ultimately, helped them grow. It’s hard to tell who is “right” in this situation or if there is even a right or wrong; the important thing is to keep an open but skeptical mind. It’s always good to approach these situations with a bit of your guard up; you don’t want to fall into a trap where you’re hyper-fixated on the messages from these people and then ignore the signs you experience in real life. While being delusional can be a good thing, it’s a fine line to walk. With everything you see on social media, it’s important to take it with a grain of salt. Be cautious with your feelings, and as the Tarot card readers say, “Take what resonates and leave what doesn’t.”
