nss G-Club Beauty Secret: Olive Oil Your new beauty ally is currently hiding in the kitchen

Bye-bye, holidays. Bye-bye free time. Bye-bye savings. If you are not among the lucky ladies that found exclusive beauty treatments under the Xmas tree but still want to keep up with your new year’s resolutions ("I promise to make at least one mask a week!"), we’ve got you covered. In this new episode of the nss G-Club Beauty Secret column, we talk about a really common ingredient, surely already at your disposal.

Undisputed protagonist of the delicious Mediterranean diet and our tables, olive oil is also a precious supporter of women’s beauty since the times of ancient Greece. According to the Greek mythology, in fact, the olive tree was created by Athena and all the other goddesses, including of course Aphrodite, used this divine ointment to nourish and perfume the skin or to create complicated hairstyles. From the very beginning, therefore, this precious oil has been served for different daily uses, including lighting, heating and therapeutic. The vitamins and fatty acids contained help the formation of collagen, promote cells regeneration and act as a barrier against the light. Olive oil is also a natural moisturizer, able to prevent skin water loss. The oleic acid acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory, able to give elasticity and protection.

Here is how to make the most of these ancient properties thanks to our beauty hacks, that will suit every need.

#1 An aid against dandruff and dry hair

Olive oil is excellent for fighting dry hair: it can be applied all over the hair and left on for about twenty minutes before washing. If you suffer from dandruff, apply it to the scalp massaging gently and leave it on all night, covering your head with a shower cap. It's also an excellent conditioner without rinsing if applied on the tips of the hair, usually the most worn out and ruined part (be careful though, you must use very little of it). You can also add one spoon of olive oil directly into the shampoo bottle, for extra nutrition every time you shower.

#2 Natural make-up remover

Olive oil can be used as a natural make-up remover. You will be able to remove even the most stubborn and waterproof make-up without clogging pores and irritating your skin. Just pour a few drops on a cotton pad and gently rub it over your face and neck.

#3 The friend of acne-prone skin

Thanks to its antibacterial properties it is particularly suitable for normalizing skin that suffers from irritation and acne.

#4 A barrier against atmospheric agents

Olive oil provides moisture to the skin of the face and body, especially in case of sunburn (in summer) or very dry skin (in winter).

#5 The cocoa butter substitute

Olive oil can be used as a basic ingredient to make a lip scrub, combined with sugar and honey. Your lips will be smooth and soft, ready to wear a long-lasting lipstick.

#6 Before the manicure

A good massage with olive oil softens the cuticles and prepares them for a manicure.

#7 A treat for your feet

Olive oil is excellent for repairing cracked heels and hydrating this part of our body, too often forgotten.

#8 For massages, of course

Just warm it up a little bit to gift someone special with an unforgettable cuddle.

#9 For him

Olive oil is a valid ally also for men’s beauty: it’s an excellent DIY shaving cream to soften and prepare the skin before shaving.
