Pinterest introduces virtual makeup testing with ‘Try On’ feature
To virtually try on make up items before buying
January 29th, 2020
Pinterest has always been a point of reference for those looking for inspiration for a new make-up or creative hairstyle. However, when it comes to buying a make-up product online, without being able to try it first, doubts start making their way to our mind: will the lipstick be right for my skin tone? will the highlighter be too bright or too shiny? And so on.
Beauty brands have tried different solutions to overcome this problem: examples are the video tutorials proposed by make-up brands, which show the final effect of make-up and also how to apply it correctly, or the possibility of "trying on virtually" lipsticks through the webcam of your device (or just uploading a good picture), as Chanel e NYX propose on their websites.
The "Pinners", after comparing and trying on different products, can immediately purchase or use the "Pin Shoppable" function to save the products for a later and more thoughtful purchase. Another function will allow you to explore beauty looks and haistyles, with visual advice on possible matches with clothes and accessories.
At the moment, this new technology is limited to lipsticks, and is accessible on iOS and Android only in the United States, but subsequently it will be available globally and for different types of products. We can't wait to try it!
