The glossary of beauty textures
In a guide to choose the most suitable formulation for our skin
August 18th, 2020
Gels, conditioners, oils & co. We are talking about textures. Beauty addicts will already know that it is the consistency of a product: what you feel when you take a small amount and massage it on the back of your hand. Here, right at that moment you are analyzing the texture of a product. An ad hoc formula, therefore, which can be oily, creamy, foamy, liquid, but also jelly and light or more greasy and greasy. Ah, we forgot, even baume.
But how can we choose the type of texture that suits us? To choose the formula that best suits your skin and lifestyle, we need first to make a premise. Regardless of the type of skin, always consider the different seasons and their climate: summer and spring, warm and sunny, will prefer light textures that absorb immediately and do not grease; winter and fall, cold and humid, will instead see rich and full textures, which can nourish more deeply and protect the skin that tends to dry out more at low temperatures. At the next wardrobe revamp, therefore, don't forget the beauty case revamp.
That said, skin type is very important in choosing the right cosmetic texture. Dry skins will need a heavier consistency rich in vegetable oils and butters, with nourishing, restorative and emollient capacity - as well as moisturizing -; while the fatter or mixed ones will need lighter formulas, with sebum-regulating, moisturizing and non-occlusive functions for the pores. Age should also be evaluated: when you are younger, the trend is towards almost invisible textures, which are able to prevent aging, but which are not heavy or greasy, acting more as a barrier and screen against external agents. ; mature skin, on the other hand, prefer more full-bodied formulas because, due to the natural aging of the skin, the tissues often require the use of ingredients that replenish and nourish the skin in a complete way, favoring the production of collagen and elastin and the ability to fight skin aging.
Juggling this chaos of cosmetic textures, however, is by no means easy. That's why, we have created a mini glossary - complete with mini shopping guides - to clarify the different types of textures currently on the market so as to choose the perfect one for you based on your skin type and climate.
CREAM
It is by far the most traditional product, the one that most of us love for its full but at the same time soft texture on the skin. They are in fact the most versatile formulas and willing to accommodate different types of ingredients and active ingredients. Their moisturizing consistency can be more or less dense and, depending on the properties, it adapts to all skin types and all seasons. So choose the one that's right for you!
SERUM OR FLUID
Due to its light and silky texture, less solid than the cream, the serum (also called fluid) is suitable for use in combination with other treatments and contains a high percentage of active ingredients that make it a precious shock treatment for all. skins, especially for those with special needs. A few drops are enough under the product that is used in the morning or in the evening to reinforce its action and enhance its effects. Those with combination and oily skin can also use the serum alone.
GEL-SORBET
These are the ideal textures for the summer. They deeply moisturize but their texture is very light, just like a gel, because they contain a greater amount of water inside them. Thanks to their refreshing power and the low presence of preservatives, they are also perfect for sensitive and intolerant skin.
OIL
Particularly suitable for mature, combination and sensitive skin, the oils are now all in a dry version - therefore rapidly absorbed - and have lighter and less greasy formulas than in the past. They are mainly composed of nourishing and detoxifying ingredients, ideal especially at the end of the day. For those with oily skin, it is best to avoid them.
BALM
Banned in summer but perfect for winter, especially for the driest and most chapped skin, the balm textures are mainly composed of very nourishing ingredients and dense textures such as butters, or natural oils and honey. Naturally, the baumes can also be used in combination with the serum for a complete treatment.
