L'Oréal has presented its new beauty vision for the future and announced that it will be increasingly committed to the development of eco-friendly products by adopting a "Green Sciences" approach to research and innovation. The goal is to achieve 95% of ingredients by 2030 made "from renewable plant sources, minerals found in large quantities or circular processes, and 100% of formulas will respect aquatic environments."
"With green sciences we are entering a new chapter for L’Oréal research and innovation, which has been a key driving force behind the company since its creation. Our ambition is that by 2030 we will be able to offer women and men around the world increasingly effective, safe cosmetics that respect the environment."
Said Nicolas Hieronimus, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of L'Oréal and Head of Divisions, while Barbara Lavernos, Chief Research, Innovation and Technology Officer of L'Oréal pointed out:
"Thanks to Green Sciences we are able to take up this ambitious scientific and technical challenge. This virtuous, circular economy-based approach will allow us to achieve new levels of performance and discover unprecedented cosmetic benefits without compromising on quality or safety, in the service of beauty that is respectful of the planet."
Over the last decade, L'Oréal has implemented a deep change focused on sustainability and finding renewable alternatives to petroleum-based ingredients, a search that invests its entire production chain, especially its research and innovation division and raw materials portfolio. The results have already been seen over the past year: 80% of the company's raw materials that are easily biodegradable, 59% renewable, 34% natural or of natural origin, and 29% of the ingredients in the formulas have been made following the principles of green chemistry. As part of this project, moreover, in 2019 the giant that controls prestigious brands such as L'Oréal Paris and Garnier launched the Inside Our Products website, where it answers questions from the public about the ingredients in its formulations and the composition of its products.
The new website reflects L’Oréal's approach to transparency, open and direct communication to win consumer trust. Available in 8 languages and in 45 countries, the website collects ingredient sheets, videos, glossary, articles with the aim of informing and reassuring consumers and the audience by restoring their trust.
