Naomi Osaka will launch her inclusive skincare line
Kinló's products will hit stores in the fall of 2021

Following Alicia Keys and Cardi B, Naomi Osaka has also decided to enter the beauty business, launching a line of skincare and sunscreen dedicated to people with dark skin. The brand will be called Kinló, a word that combines the athlete's Japanese and Haitian origins ("Kin" means "gold" in Japanese, "ló" means "gold" in Haitian Creole), and, as revealed by BoF, will focus on formulas designed by a team led by dermatologist Naana Boakye to meet the needs of dark-skinned people, a target usually ignored by the market. The tennis player pointed out that until recently, even she was unaware of the importance of using a filter with sunscreen and that about 33% of African Americans die of melanoma in the United States. This data convinced her to do the new project:
What drew me towards this project is having memories of being a kid and not knowing how to protect my skin. I only started wearing sunscreen recently. For me, this project is something that requires more than just being a spokesperson. This is a public health need. I used to tell people that I didn’t need to wear sunscreen, but even if you have melanin, you need to take care of your skin, and I am passionate about that
Kinló, which will be developed with the partnership of A Frame Brands, will include an SPF 50 sunscreen designed for outdoor activity, an SPF 40 tinted face lotion with blue-light protection, a body spray, a repairing lip balm and repairing eye cream. The products are expected to arrive in stores in fall 2021 and should all be available with a price under $20 USD.
