Oily skin: 5 most common mistakes
Problems with excess of sebum and impurities? Here's how to keep your skin healthy
September 13th, 2021
Many people today are struggling with the problem of oily skin. This imperfection is easily recognizable: it involves, in fact, an “oily” skin surface, often characterized by dilated pores and the presence of pimples and blackheads. Sometimes this problem can be associated with adolescence, but actually adults can suffer from it too. The causes are different, and not only concern the hormonal aspect. Oily skin can be caused by an incorrect diet, by taking certain medications, even by skin diseases like seborrheic dermatitis. But how to fix it? Knowing that there are small tricks in our beauty routine that can help the skin is important. Here are the mistakes to avoid.
1. Use only products specific for oily skin
If your entire routine is based on dehydrating and lipid-lowering products, the only result you will get is to damage the skin barrier, with possible discoloration, inflammation and sensitization. Damage to the skin barrier initially results in slight dehydration, then peeling and tightness of the skin, until it becomes less elastic and compact, then premature aging, with sagging tissues and marked by expression lines. During skincare, it is good not to layer only extra absorbent, degreasing, exfoliating and antibacterial products without returning anything to the skin's natural defenses.
2. Not using the moisturizer
It is easy to think that the moisturizer accentuates the "shiny" effect on the face, especially on the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin). This is a mistaken belief: indeed, the hydration of the epidermis is an indispensable operation to combat this imperfection.
3. Avoid face cleansing and face masks
Yes to facial cleansing and clay masks, but kept on the face for no more than ten minutes. Do at least one exfoliating scrub once a week and use astringent tonics such as rose water! Do not use too many products together or haphazardly but above all do not further stress your skin by washing it more than three times a day, because with an excess of cleansing you can get the opposite effect and therefore an increase in sebum.
4. Not removing make up correctly
In fact, makeup tends to clog pores, which would only make the situation worse. Use a good cleansing milk, along with a softening and astringent toner. Distribute the formulation with a pad of wadding or cotton, "tapping" on the face; then pat dry with a clean, dry towel.
5. Not applying an SPF while exposed to sun
It is wrong to think that the use of sunscreen suffocates the skin even more. When you expose yourself to the sun or in general during the day, it is always a good idea to use sunscreens that can protect our skin. Prefer light and non-greasy textures.
