Combination skin: 5 most common mistakes
Beauty tricks for a better and healthier skin
September 27th, 2021
Combination skin is a very common condition, which depends not only on hormonal factors but also on genetics, eating habits. It divides the face into different areas: the T-zone, forehead, nose and chin, is characterized by the presence of imperfections like pimples, black and white points and tends to shine during the day; the rest of the face is normal or with dry areas. Large pores are often present. But how to treat it? For this type of skin, special precautions are needed: products that are not too degreasing, purifying but balancing, moisturizing but not nourishing. A purifying cleanser or rebalancing sebum, a purifying mask, patches for blackheads, a good astringent tonic, a moisturizer and a serious face lighter for the summer should never be missing. But let's get to the mistakes to avoid.
1. Apply the same product all over your face
Those with combination skin tend to have some parts of the face that are drier and more marked, in particular the eye and lip contours. There is no worse mistake than applying a purifying cream, which absorbs the sebum, on these delicate areas; better to use a simple light cream to avoid marking them further.
2. Use too much scrub and purifying clay masks
Through sebum-regulating masks (for example those with clay) and violent scrubs, we end up worsening the situation: when you have slightly problematic skin, we cannot afford to stress it too much, we must respect it without changing its nature. Yes to a mask a week and a scrub every two but no more.
3. Cleanse too much
That is more than 2 per day, with aggressive detergents that completely remove the protective hydrolipidic film causing a sensitization reaction, an increase in sebum production in the T-zone and further drying in the areas of dry skin.
4. Remove make-up in the wrong way
f we do not remove make-up in the right way, our skin will never be really clean and it will not be able to benefit in the right way in the following steps of the routine. Furthermore, not removing make-up can clog pores and lead to the appearance of imperfections. For this reason, those with combination skin could remain faithful to the double cleansing, made with an oily cleanser and a foaming agent. If your skin is too sensitive for this type of cleansing, however, do a double step to make sure you have removed all traces of make-up or residues of impurities and smog.
5. Not moisturizing your skin (or not enough)
This error stems from the belief that skin is more oily than combination and from the increasingly erroneous belief that sebum production increases with a moisturizing product. Focus on a light cream or a moisturizing serum, perhaps with hyaluronic acid to also restore the balance in terms of hydration in your skin.
