Everything you need to know about one of the most common imperfections

Very similar to scars, white stretch marks are small lesions that form on the epidermis as a result of significant tension in the dermis (the deepest layer of the skin). Whether it's a change in weight, pregnancy, or simple sudden growth, when the skin is stretched too much, or too abruptly, the skin undergoes a kind of tearing, hence the appearance of stretch marks. It is no coincidence that they tend to appear in areas where it is easier to lose or accumulate weight: breasts, stomach, thighs, buttocks and arms. In addition, the color of stretch marks is closely linked to the stage they are at: irregularly shaped, they initially take on a red or purple color, before turning white. So let's try to answer the question: Stretch marks, how to reduce them and combat them effectively?
The answer is not trivial and it must be said that it is almost impossible to make these blemishes disappear completely. However, preventing stretch marks is undoubtedly the best way to deal with the problem, especially if you are already affected and want to prevent them from spreading. There are some general rules to follow, especially with regard to diet and lifestyle, as well as a sort of protocol to be followed at home, which is also valid for the delicate period of pregnancy and breastfeeding.
To prevent the appearance of stretch marks it is necessary to follow some basic rules in the diet such as reducing fats (fried foods, sausages, but also alcohol and caffeine), eating fruit and vegetables, drinking a lot (at least 1.5 liters of water a day), preferring foods rich in beta-carotene, often recognizable by their characteristic orange color, and introducing foods rich in selenium, zinc and magnesium which preserve skin tone. At home, the constant use of creams for stretch marks, from oils to lotions, is more effective in the prevention phase than in the treatment phase. To obtain results, the important thing is not to skimp on the quality of the product chosen and to be very, very patient. The results will not be visible from the day after the first treatment. If the stretch marks have appeared for at least a year, it will be more difficult to eliminate them, so it is best to carry out periodic checks in special centers to prevent them and act in time. Generally speaking, however, the application of creams against stretch marks gives the first optimal results after 60 days of use.
Of course, it is also possible to eliminate existing stretch marks in the salon, and the most common treatments are laser and chemical peeling. Laser therapy against stretch marks is a non-invasive, quick and simple method of removing stretch marks with laser pulses. It eliminates redness, smoothes out the streaks and gives the skin a better, healthier appearance, with long-lasting results. Laser therapy uses high-energy ultraviolet light to break down the molecular bonds of skin tissue (this process is called ablation). In a nutshell: the laser removes the skin on stretch marks and, at the end of the therapy on the treated area, new layers of healthy skin will form. Chemical peeling therapy, on the other hand, is a treatment involving the application of an acid solution to burn off the superficial layers of skin affected by stretch marks. Dead and damaged skin cells are then removed, thus promoting the regeneration of a new layer of skin.
