When it is included in skincare products, it is generally produced in a laboratory to ensure maximum stability and effectiveness." says Francesa Fusco - a New York-based dermatologist who specializes in dermatologic surgery. "In addition to being comedolytic-which means it prevents blackheads and blackheads-Azelaic Acid works to deeply exfoliate the skin (acting inside the pores) and is also keratolytic (breaks down excess keratin), anti-inflammatory and has antioxidant properties. As we said, it is a multifunctional ingredient." Fusco continues.
In fact, in percentages between 15 percent and 20 percent, this acid has the power to improve the condition of the skin not only in cases of acne, but also rosacea and melasma, that is, a condition in which the pigment responsible for tanning, melanin, accumulates in the skin, causing darker pigmentation spots. By counteracting free radicals, then, this naturally derived substance can help fight skin oxidation along with signs of aging, proving to be an excellent ally in anti-aging treatments.
