What do the beauty looks of the Nepo Babies have in common?
It's all about privilege and the best MUAs in the world
December 23rd, 2022
Bella e Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Lily-Rose Depp, Kendall Jenner, Zoë Kravitz, Iris Law, Maude Apatow, … the list could go on and on, and at the end we will have a list of pages and pages full of names that have at least two things in common: famous parents and an enviable (and much copied) sense of style when it comes to fashion and beauty. That's right, because most of the it-girls that we constantly praise for their ability to match minidresses and clogs, eye shadow and lipstick, but also to intercept and be the first to launch new trends are Nepo babies, those who until 2021 we simply knew as daddy's boys, i.e. the children of famous mothers and fathers, who have a career already underway in showbiz. To the chagrin of Lily-Rose Depp, who spoke of it as a double-edged sword with some advantages, but also many problems to be solved, first and foremost the misconception that there is no talent or hard work behind her success. Vittoria Ceretti was outraged and reminded the eldest daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis that not everyone has the advantage of having the road paved from birth, with perfect genes (although the Italian model certainly doesn't lack those) and the right contacts willing to give you at least a chance just because of your family ties.
Suddenly everyone on social and mainstream media started taking sides, discussing the pros and cons of nepotism baby status and how it has always existed in every field, but especially in entertainment. Come to think of it, much of the Hollywood we love falls into the category, from Kate Hudson to Gwyneth Paltrow, from Angelina Jolie to Drew Barrymore, as New York Magazine also recalls, which dedicated a cover that went viral to the hottest topic of the moment, in which the heads of famous children born to Hollywood stars, including Dakota Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp and Maya Hawke, are mounted on the children's bodies. The various articles inside read "This is the nepo baby credo: try, and if at first you don't succeed, remember that you are still the child of a celebrity, so try, try again" and again "We love them, we hate them, we don't respect them, we're obsessed with them", but the most brilliant sentence, the one that best sums up the advantages of the children of is "She has her mother's eyes. And agent."
It's as simple as it is undeniable, whether they want to or not, Bella, Gigi, Maude, Hailey and all the others with prominent surnames have been raised in luxury, in privilege for a successful present and future. And we are not just talking about the bank account or the reflex fame obtained from their parents, but the contacts. Each of them has been accustomed from a very young age (see North West who at the age of 9 has already appeared in the front row of Paris Fashion Week with make-up and outfits by Gaultier) to having relationships and working with the best designers, stylists and make-up artists, from whom they have learnt all the secrets of the trade, starting with the best way to enhance themselves and achieve a guaranteed wow effect. It is no coincidence, therefore, that "offspring such as Paul Walker's daughter Meadow, Stephen Baldwin's daughter Hailey Bieber, Kris Jenner's daughter Kendall, Kamala Harris' stepdaughter Ella Emhoff and Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia Gerber have found a fast track" in the world of fashion and beauty that has often led them to success supported by millions of followers ready to praise them, imitate them and buy any product they launch on the market or for which they are testimonials. In a way, they were born for this. And if all of us mere mortals have to endure hours of tutorials and failed attempts to hide our big noses or to understand how to make the perfect cat-eye, they have always practised under the guidance of gurus such as Charlotte Tilbury and Pat McGrath who have not only taught them how to apply make-up, but also how to turn flaws into strengths and how to develop a personal and incisive style. Are you also thinking that all in all the Nepo babies' condition entails more pros than cons, at least when it comes to aesthetics?
