The lipstick of the summer is violet by Dries Van Noten

A season of impossible combinations and a place to be in Rome

The lipstick of the summer is violet by Dries Van Noten A season of impossible combinations and a place to be in Rome

Anyone who has followed Dries Van Noten's electrifying Paris shows knows this: impossible combinations are an integral part of his narrative. One collection combined florals with military uniforms, the next he reworked tartan motifs in taffeta, organza and lamé for a luxurious new take on grunge. Not to mention the elegant moment of his SS20 show, where he collaborated with French fashion designer Christian Lacroix, whose vibrant minimalism contrasted perfectly with Van Noten's conceptual and practical language. The idea of creating unlikely combinations is also at the heart of his first beauty collection, a line of 10 perfumes and 34 lipsticks created in collaboration with Spanish fashion and perfume company Puig. With it, Dries Van Noten has created a beauty collection characterised by a sustainable vision of beauty: Recycling and upcycling, protecting craftsmanship, animal-friendly formulas and sustainable sourcing.

One of the highlights of the collection is undoubtedly the lipstick in the shade Lovely Lilac, which is accompanied by the fragrance Raving Rose, an intoxicating scent that combines the flower with black pepper and rose. It is inspired by the French tradition of sprinkling strawberries with pepper. It is modern, unexpected and in a completely different form to most rose fragrances that have hit shop shelves this spring.

And not only that. If you are planning a weekend getaway to Rome a la "Vacanze Romane" this summer, there's another destination worth visiting besides the covetousness in front of the Trevi Fountain, the air-conditioned Vatican Museums and the tranquillity of Villa Borghese in the Rinascente on Via del Tritone. It is the new beauty corner of designer Dries Van Noten. Here you can feel all the soul of the brand and its collections, inspired by the magnificent garden of the artist's house. Vibrant colours, fragrances and textures allow everyone to express their personality with products designed with craftsmanship and sustainable sourcing of ingredients in mind. A unique experience where you can enjoy the original fragrances made from natural ingredients and observe and try out the make-up collections with their creamy formulas.

Dries Van Noten's style is influenced not only by the mix of patterns and colours, but also by punk and rock music and the fashion world around him. And it is precisely this sentence that inspired his beauty collection. Just think of some of the 34 lipstick shades, the top shade? Lilac. How to apply such a difficult colour to the lips? You can apply the glossy Lovely Lilac on the upper lip and the matte Digital Violet underneath.

If you follow Puig Make Up Artist Yari Deaugustini's advice, another option is to ombré your lips for an important dinner or night out. In this case, apply the darkest lipstick in the centre and a lighter nude shade towards the outside for a three-dimensional effect. Or, to create volume: Apply lipstick only in the centre of the upper lip around the cupid's bow, then print the lower lip to mimic a kiss, fill it in and finish the painted corners with a darker shade with a lighter centre. All lipsticks contain rosehip oil, which is moisturising and smoothing, and also apricot, mango or pomegranate seed butter, depending on the texture of the different lipsticks. The beauty experience is rounded off by the bejewelled case, a luxury meant to last forever, as only the refillable lipsticks change inside.
