Latte makeup is the beauty trend of the summer
A bright smokey in warm colors that perfectly channels the summer mood
July 5th, 2023
The aesthetic of the Vanilla Girl, who wears soft and extremely cozy clothes in light shades like butter and oats and collects only lip balms, body creams and perfumes made of vanilla and cashmere in her beauty case, is over. Or rather, she's been given a sun-kissed summer update. The hashtag #lattemakeup has already garnered more than 24.3 million views on TikTok and is poised to become the trend of the hour. Rachel Rigler was the first to invent this style, or at least to give it a name. In a video, she showed how to mimic the "warm and bronze, milky and effortless" beauty look for tanned skin, inspired by some of make-up artist Tanielle Jai's work, which is reminiscent of café au lait shades. The reasons for its success? It's simple, effective and fits well with the mood of the season.
While there's no one-size-fits-all approach, creators seem to agree that the basics include minimal face coverage, smokey eyes, natural lips and monochromatic shades like caramel, tan, suede, bronze, gold and amber. What you absolutely need? An eyeshadow palette that includes the warm colours I just mentioned, brown eyeliner, mascara, bronzer, highlighter, lipstick, nude lipstick and, if you like, lip gloss. Jai recommends leaning towards yellow-based products and avoiding reds.

The first step is to moisturise the skin, protect it with a sunscreen and stick to a CC cream or concealer applied ad hoc to even out the complexion and create as natural an effect as possible. Then move on to contouring with a bronzer on the cheekbones, around the forehead as well as around the eyes and along the jawline, blending with a make-up brush. Jai points out that applying bronzer also opens up the eyes on the lower lash line and around the eyes. Instead of a regular eyeliner, the MUA prefers a lipstick, also in nude-brown, which she applies below the lower lash line and then smudges. She continues with a brown or caramel eyeshadow, matte or glossy, which she applies to the entire eyelid. Then she takes a smaller eyeshadow brush to create a smokey eye by applying an extra amount of product to the lower lash line. Now you need to add a touch of gloss to the centre of the eyelids and inner corners of the eyes to make them appear brighter and larger. Those who want a more dramatic effect can apply dark brown or black eyeliner to the upper and lower lash lines. Then complete the look with mascara. Choose illuminators applied to the cheekbones, tip of the nose, chin and just under the eyebrows for a beautiful glow. After setting the make-up with a translucent powder, contour the lips with a light brown pencil and fill them in with a nude-coloured lipstick. The extra touch? A gloss for an extra glossy effect.
