Aesop, everything about the new fragrance Virēre
A lively aroma helps us preserve the sun
September 10th, 2024
Autumn inevitably arrives with the return of September, bringing with it memories of holidays, sunshine, relaxation, and the freshness of greenery still lingering on our skin. We would do anything to hold onto it a little longer, to carry it with us forever. Aesop offers us a way to do just that with their new fragrance Virēre Eau de Parfum.
What does Virēre, the name of Aesop’s new fragrance, mean?
The name Virēre comes from the Latin verb meaning "to be green" or "to be full of life," reflecting the lively character of the scent, rooted in the revitalizing essence of the outdoors. During the formulation process, longtime collaborator Barnabé Fillion drew inspiration from Mediterranean holiday memories, from cycling past orchards to preparing a morning cup of tea under a fig tree pergola. With key notes of Bergamot, Fig, and Green Tea, this fragrance falls under the fresh scent category, but like all of Aesop’s Eaux de Parfum, it defies simple classifications with its layers and unconventional style.
The notes and aromas
Echoing the way memories return to us in non-linear and unexpected forms, Virēre blends an intricate array of notes to challenge the conventions of a classic fresh scent. Interweaving top, heart, and base notes, a series of accords evoke the many facets of fig, from its woody richness to its lush greenery and sun-warmed citrus. The first impression comes from Galbanum and Petitgrain, capturing a distinctly green aroma, further enlivened by the sparkling Bergamot. The heart notes reveal warmer, herbaceous depths, with Green Tea, Mastic, and lively Pink Pepper evoking a steaming cup of tea infused with fresh figs. This aromatic journey lingers with hints of Cedar, Green Maté, and Hay, creating a woody base with a mineral touch that brings a lush vegetal richness.
