Bottega Veneta fragrances are a tribute to Venice
An expansion of Matthieu Blazy's creative vision
October 2nd, 2024
Fashion loves fragrances, especially when they are luxurious, transporting you to distant places and reflecting the creative vision of the designer, directly from the runway. Bottega Veneta is no exception, adding another sense to sight and smell: the sense of touch.
Touch for Bottega Veneta
Since his appointment as Creative Director, Matthieu Blazy has always emphasized the importance of touch for Bottega Veneta, both in the tactile materiality of the designs and in the craftsmanship that represents the brand’s unmistakable savoir-faire. Similarly, each of the five fragrances reveals its refinement and complexity once it comes into contact with the skin of the wearer. Inspired by Venice’s extraordinary history as a center of trade and cultural exchange, Blazy conceived each of the five fragrances as an olfactory Intrecciato—a 'woven' composition of ingredients from different countries and continents. Just as Venice has long connected North and South, East and West, the collection tells a global story, distilling essences from every corner of the globe to create evocative perfumes that awaken the senses and capture the imagination.
The Fragrances
Warm like the Mediterranean sun, Colpo di Sole blends the relaxing notes of French Angelica oil with the absolute sensuality of Moroccan orange blossoms. Fresh and elegant, Come with Me combines the invigorating citrus notes of Italian bergamot with the powdery accords of French iris butter. Acqua Sale merges woody labdanum absolute from Spain with juniper oil from Macedonia, evoking the enveloping scent of salty water on the skin. Sophisticated and seductive, Déjà Minuit blends Madagascan geranium with the spicy notes of Guatemalan cardamom. Alchemie brings together Brazilian pink pepper and precious Somali myrrh in a blend of intoxicating opulence.
The Bottle: A Tribute to Venice and Veneto
Blazy’s fragrance collection elevates the bottle to an exceptional level of craftsmanship and tactile pleasure. It is an object that not only contains the perfume but also embodies the Veneto region and the artisanal heritage of the Maison. The translucent glass bottle, with its fluid and sinuous shape, evokes the lagoon environment of Venice. Through an innovative process developed specifically for this project, the bottle mimics the look of blown glass and contains air bubbles, unique to each bottle. This distinctive effect pays homage to the centuries-old tradition of Murano glassblowing, which was recently incorporated into the set design of Blazy’s Winter 24 fashion show. The bottle rests on a base of Verde Saint Denis marble, the same marble used in Blazy’s store designs. In addition to literally elevating the bottle beyond its function, the miniature pedestal recalls the walls, floors, and facades of Venetian architecture. In a playful inversion of this architecture, the bottle is designed as an elegant keepsake, reusable, and made entirely from eco-friendly materials, with no plastics involved.
