Margot Robbie has recently been named the new face of Chanel N°5. Her first project in this new role? See you at 5, the campaign for the iconic perfume, a short film shot in 35 mm and directed by Luca Guadagnino, where the star of Barbie acts alongside Jacob Elordi, showing us the chemistry between the two before we see them together again in the film adaptation of Wuthering Heights by Emerald Fennell. Set to the notes of Verdis Quo by Daft Punk, the two actors and the Italian director explore the transformative nature of desire, staging a missed encounter along the sun-drenched roads of California. This turns into an ode to contemporary femininity and the power of the anticipation of pleasure, which can be far more romantic and satisfying than the pleasure itself. As the scenes unfold, it almost feels like you are experiencing firsthand the thrill and excitement accompanying the moment you're about to reunite with your crush.

The Chanel N°5 short film directed by Luca Guadagnino

See you at 5, Ci vediamo alle 5, is Margot Robbie's message to Jacob Elordi. She walks barefoot around her house, with a towel wrapped around her body, her long honey-blonde hair loose. She applies two drops of Chanel N°5, puts on a red tweed suit with a mini-skirt, of course Chanel, and gets into her convertible to meet her love. On the other side, Jacob also sets off, speeding down Big Sur on his motorcycle, with the beautiful backdrop of the California coast. They are getting closer to each other... they almost cross paths, brushing past each other but missing by a split second. A message exchange reveals that they each went to the other's house. She bursts out laughing. It doesn't matter because she knows that it is the desire itself that matters most. Carefree and at peace with herself, wearing a red swimsuit, she dives into the ocean.

Chanel N°5: more than a perfume, a statement that speaks of the wearer

In 1921, Ernest Beaux created Chanel N°5, a revolutionary product in every sense, starting with the minimalist design of the bottle, which resembled whisky bottles and has been part of the permanent collection at the MOMA in New York since 1954. Since then, that bottle, and especially its contents, have accompanied countless women, each different, unique, and special. Did you know that Marilyn Monroe used to wear a few drops of it to bed? In 2024, this perfume has become a beauty icon, but it continues to empower women to be free and true to themselves, unbound by stereotypes or external expectations—just like Margot Robbie in the new campaign. The actress herself explains:  "A Chanel N°5 woman is seductive, powerful, independent, she knows what she wants. The woman who wears N°5 has a quiet confidence, she has an allure, an innate elegance. She is the master of her own destiny, she’s independent and she knows what she wants. I love the idea of a woman who 'wants'. I think, as a concept that has, for some reason, been so shut down. But to celebrate that idea of having desires is liberating. I think perfume accesses that idea of 'I do want something and I can find that thing in myself'. I love that perfume not only helps you to access it, but it also amplifies the desires you have."
