The first Nike SB video dedicated to female skaters

It's a historic moment for female skateboarding. We've taken through this evolution over the past few months, underlining how the most important and influential magazines and brands of the industry are starting to focus on these athletes. Yes, athletes, because from the upcoming Tokyo Olympics skateboarding will become for the first time an Olympic sport. This unprecedented event will certainly help to increase the attention on this discipline that has always had a high rate of coolness.

One of the brands that have always shared a close bond with the skateboarding world is Nike SB, which has just released its first video starring only female skaters. The project, directed by Jason Hernandez with the help of Tyler Smolinski, is entitled Gizmo, the nickname of Elissa Steamer, one of the most important personalities of this world, that appears in the images along with Lacey Baker, Leticia Bufoni, Hayley Wilson, Sarah Meurle, Josie Millard, Nicole Hause, Aori Nishimura and Rayssa Leal. 

Grown up in Florida in the 1980s, Elissa Steamer was known in her neighbourhood as "the girl who skated". More than three decades later, Steamer became one of the first women to earn professional status. Lacey Baker has used her technical skills as a platform to support women's community and LGBTQ rights. Baker is moreover the inspiration behind the Women's Nike SB Bruin High, the first Nike skate shoe designed for women.

Shot over the course of a year in cities in North America, China, Western Europe and Australia, the film was born also to encourage all kinds of people to take a skateboard and to start a conversation about the expansion of the culture of skateboarding.
