"Heaven", the new collection by Marc Jacobs and Ava Nirui
Funny, ironic, with a lookbook that celebrates the subcultures of the 90s
September 10th, 2020
Marc Jacobs celebrates subcultures and his community of friends and muses in Heaven, his new line created together with Ava Nirui, who has been overseeing special projects for the brand for a few years, but has become famous as Avanope with its high fashion bootlegs.
Heaven is the gateway into our universe of subversion: teenage daydreams, alienation nation, candy ravers, psychedelic fantasia and day-glo dystopia. A fantasy world connecting subcultures and celebrating the multifaceted characters who have made up the Marc Jacobs community for the past 30 years.
It is a space for "girls who are boys and boys who are girls and those who are neither" full of contributions and special collaborations, where coexist adolescent nostalgia, queer youth, Mike Kelley's sculptures, the eclecticism of the FRUiTS magazine, the alternative characters of Cindy Sherman, Winona Ryder, Sofia Coppola, Courtney Love, the work of stylist Katie Grand for Dazed & Confused (which also inspired the logo image with the two-headed teddy bear), the subcultures of the 90s.
The first collection, called Saint, translates Jacobs' heritage for a new generation of consumers, presenting an eclectic and joyful mix of apparel, accessories and household items ranging from colorful prints to oversized silhouettes; from sweatshirts and t-shirts that pay homage to Gregg Araki's films to plush toys by Chinese artist Nhozagri; from a DVD signed The Virgin Suicides by Sofia Coppola to a photo book by Corinne Day.
If the Heaven campaign stars Iris Law, LilyMcMenamy, Vegyn, beabadoobeee e Jyrrel Roberts shot by Larissa Hofmann, the lookbook, instead, has been released by Shoichi Aoki, the founder of FRUiTS, the Japanese street style cult magazine, who also appears in the pictures together with the designer Yoon of Ambush, the skater Daisaku and the founder of Facetasm Hiromichi.
