The Supermodels: the new docuseries about the 90s top models
Apple TV+ dedicates its new project to the four women who have changed the history of the catwalk
October 8th, 2020
The top models of the 90s are coming back. AppleTV+ asked Barbara Kopple, director winner of two Academy Awards, to create a docuseries focused on Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista.
The project, entitled The Supermodels, retraces, among unreleased videos, interviews and fashion shows, the golden age of the four tops, when they walked arm in arm for Gianni Versace and all the biggest brands, were protagonists of George Michael's music videos (Freedom! 90) and occupied every media:
The Supermodels travels back to the 1980s, when four women from different corners of the world united in New York. Already forces in their own right, the gravitas they achieved by coming together transcended the industry itself. Their prestige was so extraordinary that it enabled the four to supersede the brands they showcased, making the names Naomi, Cindy, Linda and Christy as prominent as the designers who styled them. Today, the four supermodels remain on the frontlines of culture through activism, philanthropy and business prowess. As the fashion industry continues to redefine itself – and women’s roles within it – this is the ultimate story of power and how four women came together to claim it, paving the way for those to follow.
The release date of the series has not yet been announced, but the legendary models have all expressed their enthusiasm, starting with Naomi who wrote about it on her socials:
My sisters Christy, Linda, Cindy and I are extremely thrilled to share our story with the world... We hope our journey seen in the docuseries will encourage, motivate and inspire young people around the world.
