Dior reveals the secrets of the new Caro bag
With a making of video showing the Maison's savoir-faire
January 4th, 2021
Dior keeps on taking us behind the scenes of its most famous items with the Savoir-Faire project, a series of making-of videos revealing all the secrets and craftsmanship needed to create true fashion icons such as the Bar jacket or the Lady Dior bag. The last star of this journey showing how the skilled artisans of the brand are able to turn fabrics, leather and chains into must-haves that we all want in our wardrobe is the Caro bag.
Dior's new it-bag, born from the mind of Maria Grazia Chiuri, made its debut on the runway during the Resort 2021 show set in Lecce that mixed the brand's DNA with the values of Apulian tradition.
It features a rectangular silhouette and a soft calfskin body with Cannage stitching, embellished with the signature quilted texture, gold metal "CD" logo on the flap and chain shoulder strap.
As the video shows, the bag is entirely handmade in Italy, combining classic style with the finest materials and the best craftsmen. The first step is the sketch, then there are the various stages of the actual workmanship ranging from cutting the panels to their assembly, including the complicated quilting that requires 18,000 stitches to obtain the geometric pattern of the Cannage.
The new Caro bag is available online, in Dior stores and at authorized retailers, in two sizes and different shades such as black, gray, beige, ivory, pink, light blue and mint green. In addition, the smaller models are declined in other variations, including an exclusive bohemian "Tie & Dior" print, a shearling lining and a denim canvas imitating the look of textured straw.
