Versace's underwater world in the SS21 campaign
Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner welcome us to Versacepolis
January 12th, 2021
Versace presents the SS21 campaign and, as for the collection unveiled during Milan Fashion Week, brings us into the underwater, fantastic and colorful world of Versacepolis. In the depths of the ocean, Medusa, the mysterious mythological creature that has always been a symbol of the brand, rules a kingdom based on beauty, strength and seduction.
With these images I wanted to portray the modern Medusa. Or better, to highlight how her many faces can be drastically different from one another and every woman can actually be Medusa. - Said Donatella Versace - All of us, with our differences and unique characters, we can express ourselves also in the way we decide to dress. The same thing is true for me, of course. We live in a world in which gender differences are no longer important and we have been given a kind of freedom like never before. Let’s use it and use it well!
In Mert & Marcus' shots, Kendall Jenner, Mona Tougaard, Hailey Baldwin-Bieber, Precious Lee and Raphael Balzer wear, together with a perfect wet look (we're sure it will be one of the season's beauty trends!), pieces in vibrant rainbow tones and the iconic Tresor de la Mer print which, first introduced on the SS92 catwalk, is back in an updated version. The other major highlight of the campaign is La Medusa, Versace's new bag that, available in different shades such as lilac, red and turquoise, has chunky chains as handles and is embellished with a medallion featuring the head of the snake-haired monster, the same detail on the doors of Via Gesù,12, the brand's first headquarters in Milan.
If for Hailey Baldwin-Bieber this is Versace's second campaign following her debut last summer alongside Bella Hadid to promote the fragrance Dylan Blue, it is instead Precious Lee's first. The curvy model walked on the catwalk during the SS21 fashion show, marking Versace's commitment to body consciousness and proposing an inclusive beauty.
