Chanel's Cruise 2022 show will take place in Provence
The white limestone quarries of Les Carrières de Lumières will be the setting for Virginie Viard's new creations

While it seems certain that the upcoming Fashion Weeks will be almost exclusively digital, Chanel announces that it will present its Cruise 2022 collection in the South of France. The fashion house has chosen the stunning white limestone quarries of Les Carrières de Lumières, famous for appearing in the 1959 film The Testament of Orpheus, directed by Jean Cocteau, for the show which will take place on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. The location, which is located in the village of Les Baux-de-Provence and has hosted several art exhibitions and multimedia light shows in recent years, will be the set for one of the collections that are most part of the French brand's DNA:
The cruise collection has been anchored in the history of the house of Chanel since the early 1920s, when Gabrielle Chanel first offered her clients lightweight and comfortable designs for various sunny destinations including the Riviera and the beaches of the Lido in Venice.
Due to the pandemic, last summer Chanel had been forced to cancel its Cruise 2021 show scheduled in Capri and also to present the Métiers d'Art collection with a fashion film staged in the Château de Chenonceau in the Loire Valley in front of a single guest: Kristen Stewart. Although currently, the new rules in force in France due to the health emergency prohibit shows from having an in-person audience, Chanel has not yet announced if the Cruise 2022 show will be behind closed doors.
