The best looks of BET Awards 2021
From Zendaya's homage to Beyoncé to the on-stage announcement of Cardi B's second pregnancy
June 28th, 2021
No virtual broadcasts from the living room or web-based performances, the BET Awards 2021 marked a return to normalcy with a red carpet and a live audience. The ceremony that awards the best African-American people in music, sports, film and other entertainment industries took place live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, presented by actress Taraji P. Henson. Despite the participation of important artists such as Lil Nas X, Migos and Tyler, The Creator, the real stars of the event were the women: from Queen Latifah, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, to Megan Thee Stallion, who wore a white Jean Paul Gaultier dress with a very deep side slit to accept the awards for best female artist in the hip hop category and the Viewer's Choice for the remix of Savage in a duet with Beyoncé. The woman who caught everyone's attention, however, was Cardi B, who took the stage with the Migos (in total Bottega Veneta loooks), in a crystal-studded jumpsuit by Dolce & Gabbana that showed off her baby bump, a precious outfit chosen by the singer to announce her pregnancy and second child, following baby Kulture, with Offset.
Beautiful, as always, Zendaya. The star of Euphoria, suggested by her stylist Law Roach, has attended the BET Awards 2021 wearing a look from the Versace archives, a purple creation with lime green accents, which paid homage to the dress that Beyoncé wore at the 2003 ceremony. Her oufit was very similar to the one by Dolce & Gabbana worn by Saweetie: same shades and same ancient Greek goddess mood.
Ciara also sparkled on the red carpet in a super sexy and sparkling catsuit by Alexandre Vauthier, Chloe Bailey in a mesh dress by Valentino, Andra Day (rumored to be Brad Pitt's new girlfriend) in Rosie Assoulin and H.E.R. in an elegant black blazer by Giorgio Armani combined with sheer pants and Stuart Weitzman heels.
And among the men? The award for the most eccentric outfits goes to Lil Nas X who wore two gender fluid pieces. The first was a Bridgerton-style dress consisting of a wide skirt and a corset, made by Andrea Grossi, a young graduate of the Polimoda Fashion Institute in Florence, and part of his Welcome to DeusLand collection. The second was a slightly seventies outfit decorated with pink and green floral patterns by Richard Quinn. The Migos, on the other hand, relied on Bottega Veneta, Giveon on Chanel, while Tyler, The Creator paired an animal print vest with black shorts and a winter hat.
