Accessories were the protagonists of Gucci Love Parade fashion show
From nose jewelry to eccentric headpieces
November 3rd, 2021
On Tuesday night, Alessandro Michele presented the Gucci Love Parade collection at Hollywood Boulevard, paying homage to vintage movie stars and the decadent, slightly kinky charm of the City of Angels. Jared Leto, Macaulay Culkin, Miranda July, St. Vincent and a heterogeneous cast of more than 100 models stepped out one by one from the Chinese theater, the historic cinema that for decades hosted the Academy Awards, walking the iconic Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk with the stars and cement footprints of actors and actresses who have become legends. All while Björk' songs filled the air and a front of friends of the brand, which included Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Dakota Johnson, i Maneskin, Miley Cyrus, Diane Keaton, Olivia Wilde, Gwyneth Paltrow (in a vintage tuxedo. in a vintage Gucci by Tom Ford from 1996), applauded the eccentric looks.
The accessories, like the garments in the runway, are a fascinating hybrid of the most decadent Hollywood, that of the parties where celebrities abandoned themselves to the most torrid and hidden habits. There are crystal tiaras and cowboy hats; beautiful jewels that frame the nose and are partly inspired by sex toys; flapper headdresses made of golden chains and others that combine the famous Peek-a-boo Hat by Elsa Schiaparelli with bondage masks; sunglasses of different shapes from cat-eye styles à la Joan Crawford to super opaque ski goggles perfect for escaping the paparazzi. Gucci's new collection draws on the designer's universe of references, a mash-up of Hollywood's Golden Age, "Marilyn Monroe’s alabaster pallor and clear voice, Veronica Lake’s velvet hair, Rock Hudson’s alluring charm, and Kim Novak’s captivating transformative power" as well as the gay clubs of the 1970s, rock 'n roll idols and the most glamorous freaks ever seen on the runway.
Inspired by his mother's past in the world of cinema, Michele brings to the stage a Walk of Fame populated by starlets of the silver screen, retro pin-ups, silent movie stars, western heroes with a fetish mood and 50s dandies. They are "idols of a new contemporary cosmogony" wearing silk power suits with cowboy hats, slip dresses embellished with feathers, fur coats, long Marilyn gloves, glittering sequin dresses, ostrich boas, vinyl bustiers and leggings.
Here's Gucci Love Parade's accessories who stole the show.
