Kim Kardashian is the Fashion Icon of the Year

Last night some of the recent times' most beloved celebrities met at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica to attend the 47th annual People's Choice Awards, during which the best people in film, TV and music were awarded by the public. Among the guests who walked the red carpet were Christina Aguilera, Cardi B, Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson, Paris Jackson, Charlie D'Amelio e Lili Reinhart, but the focus was all on Kim Kardashian.

SKIMS founder accepted the award for Fashion Icon of the Year in a Balenciaga total look from the spring/summer 2022 collection. The outfit featured a minidress/bustier worn over a jacquard turtleneck, paired with a pair of boots that looked like a catsuit and long gloves. All featuring a light jacquard lacework. To give her outfit an even more iconic twist, Kim chose an oversized wrap-around eyewear model, along with large chandelier earrings. 

E!, which organizes the event, explained among the reasons for which the celebrity deserved the coronation as Fashion Icon of 2021 are "keen fashion sense, unprecedented entrepreneurial success, and single-handedly transforming the fashion industry through her innovative designs and trend-setting style over the past decade". Receiving the award, which she received from the winner of 2020, Tracee Ellis Ross ( who was also wearing a cargo jumpsuit by Balenciaga), Kim made a short acceptance speech in which she thanked all the designers who have collaborated with her over the years and, surprisingly, she also mentioned her ex-husband, Kanye West:

I started off as a closet organiser and a stylist, so the fact that I'm winning a fashion icon award is like a pinch-me moment. I’m humbled every single day that designers are willing to work with me. There was a time when they weren’t. Thank you, Zac Posen, who dressed me and took me to my first  CFDA Awards, so many amazing designers like Riccardo [Tisci] and Olivier [Rousteing]that really believed in me. Well, [they] probably [were] talked into it by getting a call from Kanye. Thank you to Kanye even, for really introducing me to the fashion world. 

And, before walking off stage, she added:

I fell in love with fashion, and I’m so inspired by so many people. But again, this is like a dream that I get to wake up and wear these amazing clothes and try new things and take a risk. I’m so humbled. 

The fact that Kim, who also won in the Best Reality Show category with the final season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, credited West with making her a fashion icon by introducing haute couture pieces designed by brilliant and innovative creatives into her wardrobe was considered by many fans of the couple as a sign of potential reconciliation between the two former partners. It is probably just an example of a mutual relationship of esteem and love, since Kim currently has a relationship with Pete Davidson and, according to rumors, Kanye would be dating the 22-year-old model and influencer Vinetria.
