Sanremo 2022: the best outfits and beauty looks of the first evening
From the couple Mahmood - Blanco to the ethereal Noemi
February 1st, 2022
The first evening of Sanremo 2022 saw singers and guests blend fashion and music with an extraordinary non-chalance, thanks to the choices of the image-makers who understood the mood of the festival, all in rebirth to celebrate the Italy of today and its excellence. Achille Lauro opens the show with a symbolic performance in which he recreates a baptism, and Raul Bova closes the show dressed as a priest. In between, four hours that slip away much faster than expected. Amadeus and Ornella Muti (in Francesco Scognamiglio), flanked by Fiorello's humour, present one artist after another: from Noemi, who appears as an ethereal diaphanous vision, to La Rappresentante di Lista in matching Moschino tuxedos, from Giusy Ferreri with a megaphone as an accessory to Ana Mena with an outfit that cites both Britney Spears and Stella from the Winx, to stay in Italian territory. Then came a series of performers and guests that made every Instagram feed spike in hormones: Mahmood and Blanco, Måneskin (with Damiano's tears setting off the Manic Pixie Dream Boyfriend alarm) and Matteo Berrettini. And, as if by magic, the strength to overcome, one after the other, the appearances of Elisabetta Canalis, who praises the beauty of the city of flowers, and the nice Orietta Berti with a look that echoes Pokemon but is actually a Rochas with styling by Nick Cerioni, surprisingly up-to-date. Tomorrow's event will be repeated with the other half of the contestants, but what were the outfits worn during the evening?
Achille Lauro
Brand: Gucci
Look: A bit Jim Morrison, a bit Iggy Pop, a bit Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Achille Lauro came down the stairs of the Ariston barefoot and shirtless, wearing only a pair of Gucci leather trousers and his many tattoos. A non-look by Nick Cerioni that crowns him Jesus Lauro Superstar of Sanremo 2022.
After the impressive entrance, the peak of the performance is a sort of real baptism on the notes of the Harlem Gospel Choir, a tribute to the singer's mother who is celebrating her 61st birthday.
Noemi
Brand: Alberta Ferretti
Look: Noemi descends the stairs like a diaphanous Venus of Botticelli with auburn hair. For the first evening of the Festival she chose an extremely refined powder pink total look with the focus on a single shade that colours the fluctuating evening dress by Alberta Ferretti, the nails and make-up by Martina Sciortino for Lancôme. Aquazzura shoes and Bulgari jewellery add a sparkling touch. The hair is left natural and falls freely on Noemi's bare shoulders. Perhaps another hairstyle would have given an interesting twist to an ethereal outfit, but a little too anonymous.
La Rappresentante di Lista
Brand: Moschino
Look: Like last year, Veronica and Dario opt for matchy matchy outfits. This time the choice falls on two Moschino tuxedos inspired by the end of the world. She combines a tuxedo jacket with a white waistcoat, shorts, fishnet stockings and black satin boots with satin laces. He sports a 2-meter long tailcoat, white dinner jacket shirt with plastron and completes with details that tell an old style and fluid elegance: bow tie, satin sash, fire red manicure. On the lips of both the LRDL lipstick matte antique pink. They're super cute, but something about Veronica's beauty choices doesn't really enhance her.
Måneskin
Brand: Gucci
Look: Standing Ovation. Even the usually plastered Ariston audience jumped to their feet to celebrate the little Made in Italy miracle that is Måneskin. The band returns to Sanremo after their international success and offers two songs and two matching outfits. For Zitti e Buoni Damiano & Co. go for a dark and vaguely eighties effect with black satin jumpsuits and tuxedos and dramatic smokey eyes for everyone. The coolest? Victoria with palazzo trousers, mini bolero and star-shaped nipple covers. For Coraline, on the other hand, they chose the power suit with perfect tailoring and a bit Seventies, all completed with a jacket on which a flower-shaped brooch blooms. The brand? Gucci, of course.
Mahmood and Blanco
Brand: Prada & Valentino
Look: They come on stage and you think OK it's over. They have won! Mahmood and Blanco are the golden boys of Sanremo 2022. The first in a Prada outfit consisting of a jacket, white tee and black oversized trousers from which a pair of mustard-coloured jacquard knit shorts peek out. The second is in Maison Valentino: a pair of oversized black tailored trousers, a transparent top and on top a super chic black cape. The result? Shivers for the style and the song, and congratulations to Silvia Ortombina of Tiny Idols, the talented stylist.
Giusy Ferreri
Brand: Philipp Plein
Look: The diva details are all there: black mermaid long dress with sparkling cut-outs, wavy bob and 3D effect nails. Unfortunately, however, something doesn't work and the result is anything but cool and iconic. Perhaps a nice vintage piece by Mugler, Versace or Gaultier would have helped.
Ana Mena
Brand: Emporio Armani
Look: Oops...I did it again. Is Britney a guest at Sanremo 2022? No, she's Ana Mena in total red, with a minidress and leather cuissardes. Even the beauty choices are those of the American pop star: a semi-waisted neckline with ponytail and make-up with a matt finish completed by a matte lipstick with a darker lip contour. A little Y2K nostalgia booklet which seems out of tune with the sound of her song.
Michele Bravi
Brand: Roberto Cavalli
Look: After joining Arisa on the cover night last year, Michele Bravi returns to Sanremo with a song about love and hope and a Roberto Cavalli by Fausto Puglisi suit. The focus is on the maxi blazer made special by 3D floral embroidery on the arms and on the top that shines under the jacket. The look is completed by a pair of lace-up boots and curly hair framing the singer's face.
