Comfortable, airy and hyper-light, the relaxed dress is the life-saving garment of summer 2022. Its minimalist shape, straight, essential cut, and easy, super-comfortable fit make it perfect to wear at any time of day: from late mornings at the office to lunch with friends, from walking the dog to drinks at the beach, from a first date to a moonlit boat ride. Just ask Jennifer Lopez who, on her honeymoon with Ben Affleck between Paris and Capri, elected it a uniform wannahave, sporting it in every possible declination. She chose it floral and asymmetrical by Oscar de la Renta for the Free'p'star boutique, maxi with a hippy folk flavor by Dolce & Gabbana on her way out of the Hotel Crillon; cobalt blue chemisier cinched at the waist by Alexander McQueen, paired with a pair of simple nude ballet flats for a hand-in-hand tour of the Ville Lumiere; halter neck and total white, but also, alternatively mini and covered with roses to juggle the alleys of Capri. All to be copied were the Reformation designs she packed such as the raspberry-colored Stassie Dress with cut-out details seen at the Tuileries Gardens and the Tagliatelle Linen dress with a cottagecore mood. Eva Longoria also opted for simple shapes and fresh fabrics, from linen to cotton poplin, for her vacation in Spain. Among her best looks are the boho dress by LemLem, a sustainable brand made in Africa by model Liya Kebede, the ultrabasic white model featuring a deep V-neck that the actress livened up with a matching fan and a pair of ultra-flat gold sandals or the pale yellow one that, as a true tourist, she wore with a Panama hat. No vacation in Europe for Jennifer Lawrence who, spotted out and about in New York City, showed off her summer street style to the paparazzi, becoming the perfect inspiration for the season. The Don't Look Up star filled our Instagram feeds with Tory Burch Claire Mccardell Dress, now a must-have with its picnic-inspired print, corset-like bodice, and slinky skirt with pockets; Faithfull The Brand signature Purple Mini Dress; and New Yorker 6397 wide cotton Strappy Dress. Jennifer's summer is effortless, so much so that she prefers, not only basic creations in cut and colors, made special by an it-bag, but to opt for no make-up beauty and leave her hair natural, loose on the shoulders or gathered in a practical high tail.
Making the minimal silhouette of the relaxed dress more personal and special are details such as a bustier bodice or smock stitch, balloon sleeves typical of Cecilia Bahnsen's creations, ruffles that enliven the skirt, wide necklines that leave the back bare, sexy cut-outs, lace inserts or floral prints. Pairings are easy, to be chosen according to the mood of the moment. Green light to flat sandals and clogs, straw or fabric mini bags in 90s style, statement earrings and colorful bangles, scarves and barrettes. And when summer is over? Just change the accessories, add outerwear and the relaxed outfit will accompany us throughout the year.
