Summer 2022 takes us back to the 1960s. Okay, instead of Brigitte Bardot, the paparazzi chase JLo around Capri, and instead of Edoardo Vianello singing Abbronzatissima, the radio plays the trio Fedez, Tananai, and Mara Sattei; but in the air there is the same smell of citrus and saltiness, of basil and sunbeams on the skin. There is even the same wardrobe. So says the latest report from Stylight, which identifies the Dolce Vita and the Mediterranean aesthetic as the sovereign trend of this hot August. Maybe it's post-pandemic nostalgia, the postcard-perfect allure of true-to-life vacation destinations like Ponza and Pantelleria, or perhaps Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's signature Dolce & Gabbana wedding, but tank tops, slippers and flip-flops have never been hotter than right now when they are registering a 77%, 12% and 57% increase in searches, respectively. If the image of an elderly lifeguard or a black-and-white movie with Alberto Sordi appears before your eyes, perhaps you are not too wrong, because that look of Italians in the roaring post-war years, revised by the coolness of brands such as Gucci, is back in the spotlight.
Thus mark +38% clicks straw hats and a good +72% clicks straw bags, always super chic and very useful. Also growing in popularity are linen shirts, with +28% clicks, and linen dresses, with +34% clicks, which, thanks to the freshness of the fabric, are among the relaxed dresses to show off from morning to night in these torrid weeks. If you still have to go on vacation and are undecided whether to pack a bikini or a one-piece swimsuit, know that the trend of the moment and 8% more searches suggest you opt for the latter, choosing among the many available models, from the romantic models of the capsule created by Gigi Hadid with Frankie's Bikinis to those made in Italy by Lido. The only diktat? Add to your shopping list a piece that reminds you of Sophia Loren dancing to the notes of Tu vuò fà l'americano.
