Blumarine revisits grunge aesthetic in pre-fall 2023 collection
Without giving up Y2K style and a sexy touch
January 19th, 2023
Nicola Brognano continues in his reinterpretation of the Y2K style and, after exploring the girly side, the femme fatale and the dark glamour of the gothic mermaid, presents a pre-fall 2023 collection by Blumarine that is "sexier, dirtier, a little more grunge, more adult, more real, from the looks is almost wrong." The new creations feature shades of raspberry, pink, purple, military green, black and lots of denim, délavé washed "with a dirty effect." The styling created by Lotta Volkova alternates between ultra-cropped down jackets with round shapes, wrap-around knit coats with a furry effect, basic tank tops, sweaters with cut-out details, soft boat-neck sweaters, fluttering miniskirts, bomber-style jackets covered with pockets, eco fur, several denim pieces. Among the protagonists remain the cargo pants, this time proposed with a tighter fit and flared bottom, but also in a short version, just below the knee; while the new entry is the silk slip dress, a model always loved by celebrities such as Kate Moss or Emily Ratajkowski. On all the items we find a triumph of ruffles, decorative strips of fabric that hang from sweaters and jeans, roses, pockets, buckles and studs, some of the elements that also give a definite twist to accessories such as belts, sandals and handbags.
The result is a collection with a subtly punk rock character, perfect for a woman who is conscious of her appearance and strength, who is not afraid to provoke and show herself sexy by dredging up and updating the Y2K style, but does so in a more subtle way than in the past. It is easy to imagine some of the new looks proposed by Brognano worn by the it girl of the moment. A few examples? For Bella Hadid the cropped vest and pants combo, with maxi belt and arm warmers would be perfect; while for Olivia Rodrigo the total purple outfit composed of tee, cargo pants and maxi cardigan.
