Uniqlo dedicates a new collection to Sofia Coppola

On 6 March, Uniqlo will launch a collection dedicated to Sofia Coppola to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her directorial debut. This news will delight fans of the director, for whom every one of her films, from Lost in Translation to Marie Antoinette, is an unforgettable cult film to watch over and over again and draw inspiration from, thanks to its unique blend of teen malaise, girly aesthetics, pop culture references, indie music and complex female characters. Now Sofia's most iconic films will become a series of wearable garments, a kind of statement pieces that reflect our taste in movies, but also our mood of the moment, as explained by the artist herself, who is delighted with Uniqlo's homage:

"I am so happy to have this project celebrating my work and hope people will enjoy the t-shirts as a token of the films that are so much a part of my life. They are a great reminder of the collaborators I worked with and the creative experience we shared. I like to wear t-shirts of artists and musicians who I love, and in the same way wish for them to mean something to someone who likes my work. I always like how a T-shirt can connect you to other people who like the same thing you do."

The Celebrating Sofia Coppola UT collection consists of a tote bag and five white T-shirts, each decorated with a scene or line from The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, Somewhere and The Bling Ring. For example, the T-shirt dedicated to the 2013 film about teenagers obsessed with fashion, fame and money reads "Let us go shopping", while the T-shirt dedicated to Lost in Translation reads "I guess this is goodbye". Whatever your favourite Sofia film is, the corresponding T-shirt will be available in-shop and on uniqlo.com from 6 March.
