In collaboration with Cyclica, this is the first Made in Italy bag made of biodegradable leather

Milan Fashion Week is not only street style and fashion shows, but also presentations, meetings and new launches. The Unica Furla Earth Limited Edition fits perfectly into this context. In fact, the Italian brand has just unveiled the new bag of our dreams. Not just any bag, but a thoughtful and considered accessory that looks to the present and the future. Furla has designed a bag made of biodegradable leather in collaboration with Cyclica, a company whose mission is to produce materials where disposal is already taken into account at the design stage. The bag embodies Furla's very own DNA, a maxi or medium-sized shoulder bag that strips back the superfluous and pays homage to the essential.
But how does a sustainable production project work? Oleum® is the brand name for the biodegradable leathers produced by Cyclica. Furla's Unica bags are produced according to a circular model. The hides used to make Oleum® come from traceable European farms destined for the food industry. They are vegetable tanned using waste water from oil production and avoiding the direct use of aldehydes or glyphosate. The leather produced is metal-free and non-toxic to the environment. The dyes, which come directly from organic farming, are derived from components such as corn, spirulina, camping bark and fern and form the basis for the manufacturing process, which does not use synthetic agents or heavy metals. Natural elements such as beeswax or special salts used for finishing give the product a performance comparable to traditional processing. The interpreter of the style of the new Unica Furla Earth Limited Edition is Iryna Shayk, immortalised by photographer Koto Bolofo, who tells a story of colour, craftsmanship and contemporary elegance.
