Leave cargo boots, ankle boots and trainers aside as the new footwear moves freely between nostalgia and the future, welcoming pointed toes, lysergic colours and soothing tones, embellished straps and shiny buckles. Here are the 5 trends to look out for.
Trend shoes SS23: Ballet shoes
.
Back in 2016, Miu Miu caused a stir with the introduction of ballet shoes with double straps and bands that wrap around the ankles. Seven years later, the ballet shoes make a graceful, dancing return, featuring soothing hues, satin and leather, with rounded toes and the ubiquitous elasticated strap. Ganni shines with green satin and a ruffled effect, Prada goes for fluffy leather and a triangular logo, The Row sticks to its austerity and neutral colour, Miu Miu emphasises the dance side with tonal rubber and bows, Aeyde goes for minimalism with cream leather and minimal strapping.
Trend shoes SS23: Black couissard
They may not have the look of spring, but given the change in weather, they are one of the top trends even in the warmer months. The common denominator is the colour, which is as black as it gets, perfect to accompany and visually elongate the extremities. Gucci wants them in two materials and crossed with deliciously sophisticated lacing, Gia Borghini goes for patent leather to go with the rubber platform, Courrèges wants a square toe and heel and a matching logo, Saint Laurent tapers the toe, lengthens the heels and finishes the leggings with little buttons, Valentino Garavani mixes platform, balancing heels, patent leather and ankle straps.
Trend shoes SS23: Transparency
.
Pvc reigns on pumps, sandals and mules. Transparent, shaded, embellished, it takes centre stage to create shoes with a very high aesthetic impact. An architectural heel and shading for The Attico, a pointed toe and decorative hearts for Alaïa, studs and rhinestones for Mach & Mach, shocking pink for Malone Souliers' mules, a pointed toe and Swarovski for Amina Muaddi's sling backs.
Trend shoes SS23: Mary Jane
The classic shape hides a soul that is much sexier than it shows, the strap or straps hug the instep, the more or less balanced heels suit day and evening. Maison Margiela goes for the classic shape with a square toe, thin strap and contrasting detail on the heel, sage green and patent leather for the popular model by Nodaleto, gold maxi buckle and soft toe for Bottega Veneta, metallic shimmer for Gianvito Rossi, baby pink, double strap and square heel for Carel Paris.
Trend shoes SS23: Architectural heel
Geometrically perfect, ironic or rigorous - the new sandals are defined and completed by special and unexpected heels. Ferragamo takes the hook and reuses it in the super slim strap sandal, Palm Angels unleashes a stylised palm tree, Acne Studios defies the laws of gravity with the half wedge heel, D'Accori embellishes the satin cone with lots of light, Yume Yume adds a contrasting heart to the padded leather flip-flop.
