Trendy accessories to give summer looks a twist
From printed scarves to straw bags
June 12th, 2023
Are you ready to face the long summer days? If you have booked your holiday and updated your make-up with lighter textures and new-generation sunscreens, there's little you need to adapt your wardrobe to the sultry heat that will characterise the coming weeks. A few tops, a sheer dress, a new bikini, and then what? The right accessories. Never underestimate how much a bag, a pair of shoes or a piece of jewellery can enhance our looks and make even outfits we have worn many times look new and interesting.
Here are some trendy accessories to spice up your summer look.
Flower Choker
We have already guessed it: florals will be worn this season. From Loewe to Dries Van Noten, the brands for SS23 suggest us to wear 3D flowers as decoration when we want to spice up a slightly boring outfit or a bag that is a bit too minimalistic. The easiest way is to opt for a choker necklace with flowers, as Harry Styles and Bella Hadid have done, embracing the corsagecore aesthetic on the red carpet and in everyday life. Perhaps choose one from Magda Butrym, Acne Studios, Sandy Liang or try DIY.
Bucket Hat
Hailey Bieber is the biggest fan of bucket hats and wears them all year round, especially on holiday with her Justin at a beach resort. Straw, crocheted, canvas, colourful, minimalist, round or square shapes, ... the Rhode founder has a whole collection of them, which she combines with bikinis, mini dresses and cargo trousers to protect herself from UV rays and the prying eyes of onlookers and paparazzi. Why do not you always have one in your handbag? We may not all be celebrities, but the bucket hat can be useful for us too and give our outfits a new twist in the coming weeks.
Raffia and straw bags
There are no natural materials more summery than raffia and straw. They can be made into belts, jewellery, hats, but most of all bags. Bags made of straw or raffia, whether as totes or baskets, make us dream of Brigitte Bardot on holiday in Cannes, even if our ultimate chic is a rubber pool on the terrace we can inspire. Cute, comfortable and roomy bags can accompany us in the coming months and add a French touch to our looks and, like Jane Birkin and Michela Meni, teach.
Jewel belts
Y2K style is here to stay. Remember Dua Lipa at the Met Gala 2023 afterparty in her vintage Chanel outfit and rain of necklaces and belts? Here are the bejewelled belts and body chains with their boho allure, they are one of the upcoming trends of the season. You can find more or less precious ones in stores, but we advise you to buy them in vintage style, at a flea market or on one of the many second-hand platforms. Fastened at the waist or on the hip, with pendants and dangling lockets, they are the accessory that spices up bikinis, maxi skirts, dresses and even jeans.
Claw clip
Ever since Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Beiber and Chiara Ferragni were photographed wearing the classic 90s claw clip a few summers ago, this hair trend has seen a rapid resurgence. No longer a symbol of sloppiness, the claw clip is a must-have for summer, a true "lifesaver" when the heatwave becomes unbearable, on a bad hair day or to tame hair after swimming. There are many different models, from the simplest to those in the shape of a dolphin or butterfly, but among the coolest are certainly those offered by Leontine Vintage.
Printed scarves
Is there a more versatile accessory than a beautiful printed scarf? This simple cloth rag offers endless styling possibilities: knotted around your neck it looks like a print, it can serve as a sarong, it can adorn the handle of a handbag and even protect your hair from the sun's rays... the possibilities are endless. The most beautiful ones are usually inherited from mothers and grandmothers. Regardless of where they come from, you should always have them handy just in case.
Ice-cold sunglasses
Sofia Richie's honeymoon wardrobe in the Maldives has certainly contributed to her current it-girl status. The celebrity has embraced the aesthetic of quiet luxury with each of her new outfits, including accessories. If you too like this style, you should copy her choice of eyewear: from her light blue rectangular sunglasses to Loewe's iconic flower-shaped frames in cream. Ice-coloured acetate sunglasses also win over Vittoria Ceretti and Emma Roberts.
Flip-flops
Ever since Jennifer Lawrence chose a pair of plain black flip-flops (by The Row) for the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, this very simple summer shoe has been back on trend. From Havaianas to all the other proposals on the market, these will be the shoes to show off in the coming months, in New York or at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d'Antibes, with a bikini, with elegant linen sets or with transparent dresses. Try them in both the minimal 90s and the blown-up version.
