'The Super Models' the documentary series about supermodels of the 1990s
Everything we know about the series coming to AppleTV+ on 20 September
July 12th, 2023
The supermodels of the 1990s are coming back. It was in 2020 when the release of a docuseries dedicated to Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista, was announced, amid general excitement from the leading ladies. At the time, Naomi wrote on Instagram, "My sisters Christy, Linda, Cindy and I are extremely excited to share our story with the world. We hope our journey as seen in the docuseries will encourage, motivate and inspire young people around the world"; while Crawford added, "I’m excited to reunite with my friends to both celebrate and examine the way supermodels transcended the traditional perceptions and limits of modeling in the fashion industry through time."
After three years of waiting, the trailer for The Super Models has finally been released; here's everything we know (so far) about the project.
Who will be the models who take part in The Super Models?
Produced by Apple TV+ by Imagine Documentaries and One Story Up and directed by Academy Award winner Roger Ross Williams and Larissa Bills, the docu-series will feature the four top models who changed the history of fashion and the profession forever by turning models into real stars - Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista. The four girls will return to the screen to reveal secrets and untold stories about their careers and that magical time between the 1980s and 1990s.
What The Super Models will be about?
The Super Models will take us back in time through new interviews and tell us how four different women from four different corners of the world became icons who are still unforgettable today. Through never-before-seen videos, interviews and runway shows, we will be able to follow the four top models from the beginning of their careers to their peak, the golden age when they walked arm in arm for Gianni Versace and all the big brands, starred in George Michael's music videos (Freedom! 90) and were on the covers of all the magazines:
"The Supermodels’ travels back to the 1980s, when four women from different corners of the world united in New York. Already forces in their own right, the gravitas they achieved by coming together transcended the industry itself. Their prestige was so extraordinary that it enabled the four to supersede the brands they showcased, making the names Naomi, Cindy, Linda and Christy as prominent as the designers who styled them. Today, the four supermodels remain on the frontlines of culture through activism, philanthropy and business prowess. As the fashion industry continues to redefine itself – and women’s roles within it – this is the ultimate story of power and how four women came together to claim it, paving the way for those to follow."
When The Super Models will be released
We'll have to wait until the end of the summer to watch The Super Models, as the first of the show's four parts will be available to stream on Apple TV+ from 20 September 2023.
