Lingerie for summer 2023, the trend to discover
Lace brassieres, silk babydolls, animalier kimonos and sheer layerings
July 13th, 2023
Lingerie is back, going hand in hand with the body-con trend and showing freely sheer boudoir effects.
The historical roots go back to 1400, the century in which the corset emerged. In the 1700s, Marie Antoinette wore revealing chemises, while in the glorious 1920s, flappers caused a stir with their revolutionary look.
Here's the SS23 lingerie mini-guide, including shows, celebrities and special shopping opportunities.
Celebrities' lingerie
Who wore it well? Obviously Zendaya in an optically white 'star' bra and skirt and the ubiquitous Kendall Jenner in a satin, lace and animal print kimono. Or Kaia Gerber in a shiny black bra and white lace skirt and Hailey Bieber in a sophisticated cover-up of tulle, lace, net and an extra-long slit. And finally Bella Hadid in a boudoir version with bodysuit, kimono, suspenders and a triumph of lace.
La lingerie in passerella
Among the SS23 shows, lingerie stood out at Vaillant, with silk, lace, sequins, cut-outs and slits to break it up, or at Sportmax with almost fluid patchwork, asymmetries and pastel colours. Instead, at KNWLS there are bustiers, crossover bodysuits and trousers with side ties. At Dior, lace, crinolines, bows and tone-on-tone bras triumph. These elements are also taken up by Acne Studios, who interpret them with fluttering lace, satin bows and rather bitchy open-toed boots.
