The best outfits and beauty looks from the first night of Sanremo 2024
From Loredana Bertè in Maison Valentino to Rose Villain in Marni
February 7th, 2024
Under the cry of "Sanremo Si Ama", the 74th edition of the Sanremo Festival officially begins. The show kicks off with Marco Mengoni, the co-host of the evening, reminding us that these new songs will «change our lives, at least for a while». Then, Amadeus joins him on the Ariston stage, and the competition starts with Clara in Giorgio Armani Privé singing Diamanti grezzi. One by one, all 30 artists competing to win Sanremo 2024 take the stage, interspersed with live performances by Lazza and Tedua. Despite the long hours, the opening night of the Festival proceeds smoothly with a focus on the singers' outfits, comedic moments between Amadeus and Fiorello, the surprise entrance of Zlatan Ibrahimović, and lots of music. The triumph of the evening goes to Mengoni, who juggles between the new role of host, singing performances, six outfit changes, and comedic sketches. In the end, the provisional ranking rewards Loredana Bertè and her song Pazza, greeted with a standing ovation.
Here are the best outfits and beauty looks from the first night of Sanremo 2024.
Marco Mengoni
Brand: Emporio Armani, Atelier Versace, Maison Valentino, Fendi, Tiffany & Co.
Look: Marco Mengoni opens the Festival alone on the Ariston stage in a dark suit with silver details by Emporio Armani. In total, he will change six times, alternating crystal tops, leather suits, dramatic capes, fake jeans, created by Versace, Fendi, and Valentino. Which one is your favorite?
Clara
Brand: Giorgio Armani Privé
Look: for her debut in the competition, Clara, winner of Sanremo Giovani, opts for a refined look: a Giorgio Armani Privé dress from the SS 2011 collection with an asymmetric silhouette that echoes her song, Diamanti grezzi, in the iridescent effect and bling-bling details. The outfit is completed with mirrored slingback heels. The beauty is flawless. Hairstylist Salvo Filetti from Compagnia della Bellezza in collaboration with L'Oréal Professionnel leaves her hair free, smooth, and with a center part. The makeup is almost nude, with a luminous face, bold black eyeliner, and lips with a touch of pink with a glow finish, pink, but soft, also for the nails.
Fiorella Mannoia
Brand: Luisa Spagnoli
Look: She had anticipated that it would be feminine but not overly sexy, "in line with the proudly dedicated song to the figure of a woman," and so it was. On the advice of her stylist, Valentina Davoli, Fiorella Mannoia chose white and lace, a mermaid-style dress almost like a wedding gown, signed by Luisa Spagnoli, paired with Crivelli jewelry. She descended the Ariston stairs barefoot, with her ginger hair gathered in a small low ponytail. On her lips, a burgundy-toned lipstick, matching the nail polish, and a very pronounced smokey eye.
Irama
Look: At the 2022 edition, he wore Givenchy. This time Irama opted for a no-brand look. No stylist, no high-profile Maison. So he appeared on stage in total black, wearing a black leather t-shirt and pants. The blond, crispy, wet hats. A red lace stood out on his wrist, while he held a necklace in his hands. All the attention had to be on his song, Tu no, which addresses the theme of nostalgia, absence, and love for an absent person. And so it was.
Ghali
Brand: Loewe
Look: For his debut in the Sanremo competition, Ghali chose to shine with coolness. He sang his song Casa mia in a sugar-colored outfit studded with glitter from the SS24 collection of Loewe. A perfect example, in a glamorous version, of the Grandpacore style: high-waisted pants, polo, and cardigan. Styling by Ramona Tabita. The beauty? Dreadlocks gathered in a ponytail and glass skin.
Annalisa
Brand: Dolce&Gabbana
Look: For some, she is becoming the Italian Taylor Swift, for talent and impactful looks. What do you think? Certainly, Annalisa has a clear idea of who she is and how she wants to appear. For the first night of the Festival, she appeared in Dolce&Gabbana total black: hot pants, top, maxi blazer, choker around the neck, garter belt, and cuissard. The hairstyle, very long hair with bangs, reminded a bit of Dakota Johnson. The MUA, Greta Agazzi, had anticipated that "Annalisa's makeup look will be bold but classic at the same time. Bold gaze and lips sublimated by nude tones and a matte finish," and so it was. The singer opted for cat-eye, nude lipstick, and black nail polish.
Mahmood
Brand: Prada
Look: Judging by the two appearances made so far, on the green carpet and during this first night, Mahmood is in the top 3 of the coolest at Sanremo 2024. After Maison Margiela, he chose Prada. He took the stage to sing Tuta gold in a total black workwear look, consisting of a black turtleneck, oversized multi-pocket vest, and cargo pants, both in leather. Boots on his feet. The jewelry is from Cartier. The beauty has a vintage mood: wet hair and a side-parted sleek line.
Loredana Berté
Brand: Maison Valentino
Look: "I am crazy about myself and I want to shout it again," sings Loredana Bertè in her song titled Pazza. But the truth is, we are crazy about her. Especially when she appears on stage with long turquoise hair, rock smokey eyes, nude lips, and a look from the FW23 collection of Maison Valentino, a mini dress that looks like a maxi sweatshirt with a white shirt collar and ruffles mimicking a miniskirt. The outfit is completed with a tie, black sheer stockings, and ankle boots.
Alessandra Amoroso
Brand: Monot
Look: The Sanremo debut of Alessandra Amoroso is marked by retro elegance. At least when it comes to fashion. The singer opts for a black dress in the style of Breakfast at Tiffany's by Monot, accessorized with opera gloves. The makeup is equally sophisticated and played in shades of pink, from cream blush to lipstick. The hairstyle is a medium bob with bangs, tousled and wavy.
Angelina Mango
Brand: Etro
Look: For her explosive live performance at Sanremo 2024 with La noia, a song written with Madame and produced by Dardust, Angelina Mango wore a one-shoulder dress by Etro in paisley-printed tulle and a top embroidered with black jet and floral motifs in velvet. The styling is by Nick Cerioni. A boho-chic look reflected in the hairstyle, a high and sleek ponytail with braids and hair piercing. The makeup by Chantal Ciaffardini featured bold smokey eyes, glossy lips, and 3D nail art.
BigMama
Brand: Lorenzo Seghezzi
Look: BigMama takes the stage at Sanremo in a bustier dress with a full ruffle skirt made of tulle by Lorenzo Seghezzi. Beautiful beauty: a wet hairstyle with lots of hairpins and doll-like makeup done by Serena Polh. The MUA opted for bold cat-eye, antique pink lips, and sculpting blush. Completing the look is 3D black nail art, long as claws.
Emma
Brand: Marc Jacobs
Look: for her performance with her song Apnea, Emma, with stylist Lorenzo Posocco, chose a black mini dress with draped sweetheart neckline by Marc Jacobs, paired with sheer black stockings, black patent leather pumps by Jimmy Choo, and jewelry by Tiffany&Co. Her hair was natural, slightly wavy, with a part on the side, while the makeup by Daniele Lorusso aka MrDanielMakeup was soft glam, in shades of brown.
Rose Villain
Brand: Marni
Look: in one word: beautiful. Rose Villain debuted at Sanremo with Click Boom!, new content in Radio Sakura, her second album coming out on March 8th, with a somewhat Barbarella look from Marni. On the suggestion of stylist Rujana Cantoni, she wore a mini dress, paired with silver boots and Damiani jewelry. For Rose, Clio Zammatteo aka ClioMakeUp created a luminous makeup, with graphic cat-eye and pink lips. The blue hair was gathered in an ultra-sleek and shiny bun.
