Coming Up Roses, the Martine Rose x Clarks collection
The designer revisits the brand's cult models
February 15th, 2024
Martine Rose's collection, which was announced last May as Clarks' guest creative director and debuted during the designer's eponymous brand's SS24 runway show, is now available in stores: on MartineRose.com and at the Selfridges Corner store on London's Oxford Street, as well as on Clarks.com and at selected retailers from February 16. Rose was inspired by the Convertible Fat Cars by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm and reworked Clarks' iconic pieces "with the mainstream in mind".
The models in the Martine Rose x Clarks collection
The stars of the Coming Up Roses collection are the oxfords, loafers and sandals. The styles in the collection come in bold shades of pink, brown and green with python prints, as well as black and oxblood tones, and feature an upper made from 100 percent recycled nylon fabric and a breathable leather lining. The Oxford with its padded silhouette and recycled nylon upper becomes a casual casual shoe with a flexible rubber sole and a padded upper in the ankle area. The Sandal has three adjustable straps with magnetic fasteners instead of a Velcro fastening, while the Loafer is given a new look with a 20 mm platform sole and a bulging heel reminiscent of the works of artist Erwin Wurm. Finally, the Torhill Hi has a new look in leather with a python print and embossed leather brand buckle. The details that make them durable and super comfortable? A robust thermoplastic rubber sole and a molded insole.
The Martine Rose x Clarks collection campaign
Martine Rose explains: "The collection is all about comfort and that exaggerated feeling of softness, so it seemed easy and natural for me to create an imaginative scenario that relates to bedding. Unconsciously, personal spaces have become a leitmotif for the brand, which I've declined in different ways in different collections, and Coming Up Roses is about that intimacy that I like to let people into." This sentiment is also reflected in the collection's campaign, which is inspired by Clarks ads from the 1980s, in which the bed represents the high comfort of the brand's shoes. The Sharna Osbourne Coming Up Roses shots echo the "ultra-cushioned" comfort esthetic of the Martine Rose x Clarks collection by showcasing Martine Rose's talents on beds with an old-fashioned feel.
