What Would Desperate Housewives Wear in 2024?

When one thinks of Wisteria Lane, fresh baked goods, suburban lifestyle, and well-tended yards immediately come to mind. But so does fashion. While for many the typical housewife wears ‘60s dresses, aprons and dishcloths, Marc Cherry’s Desperate Housewives and its iconic characters demonstrated that there is no such thing as a housewife's dress code — and that taking care of home and children does not have to mean sacrificing sartorial choices.

In a vast neighborhood, Bree Van De Kamp, Gabrielle Solis, Edie Britt, Lynette Scavo, and Susan Mayer stood out for their unique personalities and styles. As many wonder what they would be doing, planning, and getting up to in 2024, the burning question that arises in a fashionista's mind is: what would these women be wearing in 2024 amidst the sea of trends that come and go? 

Bree Van De Kamp

As the embodiment of elegance and class – and the Republican Party in Fairview – Bree Van De Kamp emulated a refined, chic style, impeccable in the eyes of her neighbors, in everything she did – whether playing poker with her friends, attending a funeral, or gardening. In 2024, she would be donning Chanel tweeds in her day-to-day, polo shirts with khaki pants and a matching hat while tendering the garden and sophisticated dresses à la Prada when cooking her perfect dessert recipes. TikTok users would dub her as one Old Money icon while others would consider her the epitome of the homemade and in-house minimal but luxury lifestyle. 

Susan Mayer

Less perfection, more comfort, Susan Mayer would add a carefree appeal with her innocent, girl next door vibe. With a casual style, she would be donning low-waisted Levi's jeans, Hollyster blouses, and Repetto flats, with a nonchalant feel almost reminiscent of Twilight's Bella Swan. 

Lynette Scavo

With a casual yet sometimes formal style, Lynette Scavo combines styles from two different worlds. Between corporate jobs as a publicist and taking care of her five children, she goes from cosy to business wear in a flash. When working, she would be seen in lady suits from the likes of  Armani, Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren, and Dior – in neutral shades of gray, black, and brown. For carrying her work paperwork, Lynette would use timeless, voluminous bags – like a Birkin, a Saint Laurent Sac du Jour, or a Prada Nylon Tote. Would TikTok users be naming her as an Office Siren girl? Probably. As well as a trophy wife. Once off-duty, she would be the new muse of quiet luxury, wearing loose white shirts, denim pants, Alaïa fishnet flats and The Row bags. Refined still, but in a more discreet way.

Gabrielle Solis

For former supermodel-turned-housewife Gabrielle Solis, being glamorous has always been her mission. As the group's diva, wearing luxury goods and visiting the mall religiously, in 2024 she would stick to statement dresses by labels like vintage Versace, Elie Saab, Tom Ford, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Zuhair Murad and Balmain, designer accessories like Christian Louboutin heels and Louis Vuitton monogram bags, flashy jewelry and other glam pieces that would cement her reputation as a Y2K legend. Even at home, she would maintain her penchant for velvet Juicy Couture sets, which only reinforced her 2000s style appeal. Although her looks would be more subtle in her house— despite it being about Gabrielle Solis that we are talking—when she stepped out, she would make sure the spotlight was on her and only her, wearing shiny garments, vibrant-hued pieces, glitzy accessories, and fancy heels. 

Edie Britt

Also eager for the spotlight, Edie Britt would maintain the sensual appeal she was so well known for with her sharp humor, sassy personality, sultry tees, tight pants, and miniskirts. And in 2024, Edie would be donning  Dolce & Gabbana leopard coats, Versace dresses, vintage Roberto Cavalli garments, Valentino and Blumarine sequin archival tops, and various Mugler dresses and bodices in the not-so-quiet suburban life of Wisteria Lane.
