The CBD-based skincare
For an "entrancing" beauty routine
May 10th, 2020
Maybe the common boredom and the desire to escape from this claustrophobic period pushed the comeback of a very special beauty trend.
We are talking about CBD skincare, that is beauty products that contain one of the two main active ingredients of cannabis. Unlike the other active ingredient, THC, CBD has no psychoactive effect and is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Once considered to be a weird new age treatment, today more and more studies are analyzing its properties. It has been shown, for example, that its use on the skin helps to reduce sebum production, avoiding the annoying shiny effect, so feared especially in summer. It is therefore excellent for younger skin prone to acne, but also for treating specific conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
Cannabidiol is therefore a valuable product for the cosmetic industry, not only because it is 100% natural but also because it is an element that can help improve the health of the skin and our all body. Not many people know that the human body naturally produces cannabinoids.
According to a report by Market Watch, the international CBD cosmetics market is worth over $580 million, with North America at the top of the list. Grand View Research predicted that by 2025 the turnover related to the sector will reach $1.7 billion. A trend that is going to last and, hopefully, to conquer Italy as well, ceasing to be a taboo.
However, it is urgent to make a fundamental distinction between the CBD principle, the noblest one, and the simple cold-pressed hemp seed oil, already used for a long time as a moisturizing ingredient in many cosmetics. The latter in fact has a high percentage of antioxidants, omega 3 and fatty acids. Hemp seed oil can therefore make a major contribution to our beauty routine but does not actually contain cannabinoids, which are only present in the flowers of the Cannabis Sativa plant, one of the most internet famous.
The important thing therefore is to always read product labels and check the percentage of CBD actually present. Furthermore, according to European laws, which are in addition to the internal laws of the various member states, CBD products may not contain more than 0.2% of THC. Another precaution is to ensure that it is combined with certain ingredients that enhance its effectiveness such as vitamin C and retinol.
It has to be said, cannabis is a real ‘evergreen’, even when it comes to beauty. Here are our favorite CBD-based products, all legal of course.
