The shocking interview of Meghan Markle and Harry by Oprah Winfrey From accusations of racism to Meghan's thoughts on suicide

It has been quite a long time since a deep rift has arisen within the British royal family, since Meghan Markle and Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, moved to Los Angeles (hometown of the actress) giving up their roles in the royal family.

The interview (which will be broadcast exclusively for Italy on Tuesday March 9th at 9.30 pm on TV8) opened with Meghan, then joined by her husband Harry, who revealed to the presenter Oprah different background of the story that shook the royal family British in recent years.

Let's start with the positive news: the couple is expecting a baby girl, the firstborn Archie will soon have a sister. Then come the shocking revelations, ranging from accusations of racism against "officials and family members" to Meghan's suicidal tendencies.

The story starts from when Meghan became part of the family, in a "naive" way, not aware of the mechanisms and the reality that awaited her. "I imagined them as characters in a fairy tale," she says.

The fairytale, however, soon turned into something completely different: the interview continues with a confession from Meghan, who explains that she had thought several times about suicide and that she asked for help from the "Institution", which however denied any kind of support or protection, for reasons of image.

“I was close to breaking point. I had heard about it from friends and realized it was happening to me too. I had clear, real and scary thoughts. Harry and I were smiling and doing our job, but in reality we were both just trying to resist" - she told Oprah.

Also Harry, in his part of the interview, confirms their state of mind:

"I've also been in a very dark place, but I wanted to be there for her".

The statements on suicide were followed by accusations of racism. Meghan claimed that in the months she was pregnant with her firstborn Archie, she was told that the baby would not be entitled to any title, nor guaranteed her safety. The motivation? "We don't know how dark his skin will be." This invariably caused great pain in the couple, who still decided not to reveal the family member(s) involved, as "it would be very harmful to them".

Later the interview moves on to the relationship between Meghan and Harry and some family members. The Duchess talks about her tells of her famous quarrel with her sister-in-law Kate, apparently unleashed by the bridesmaids' dresses for Meghan and Harry's wedding. Meghan states:

"The newspapers accused me of making my sister-in-law Kate cry. It was actually the other way around. It was I who cried, and she apologized by sending me flowers and a note. Too bad, though: at the time she did not publicly deny when she could and should have done so".

Harry also opens up about his relationship with his father Carlo, telling that for a period his father stopped answering his phone calls and the only contacts were via email, to have everything in writing. He adds:

"There is still a lot to work on now. I feel really disappointed because he has been through something like this. He knows what it feels like, he knows what pain is. And Archie is his nephew. But at the same time, of course, I will love him forever".

Even with his brother William, relations are "on hold", despite the bond that unites them is deep as well as the affection that Harry says he still feels for him, despite everything. They also confirm that the royal family has "cut them out financially" and that they are living on the legacy of Harry's mother and contracts with Netflix and Spotify.

The talk ends with a thought to Harry's beloved mother, Lady Diana. Oprah asked what Diana would think of this whole situation today, and Harry replied:

"She would be very angry and sad about how it all turned out, but she would like us to be happy."
