How to take advantage of the benefits of face masks avoiding some simple mistakes
July 26th, 2021
Dull, dehydrated skin, in need of a boost to erase (at least in part) the signs of a difficult year? Especially when combined with a good skincare routine, face masks are able to give immediate results and treat a multitude of needs, from dehydration to blackheads, but also impurities and wrinkles. Did you know, however, that to really benefit from face masks it is good to follow some simple steps? It is very easy to stumble upon common mistakes that could compromise the success of this beauty treatment. Here are the ones to avoid.
1. Not cleansing your face before applying it
Cleansing is the fundamental step that must always precede the face mask. Before applying any product, from classic to fabric masks, it is important to cleanse the skin, eliminating all traces of make-up and impurities. Then remove your face thoroughly, and rinse the skin with a cleanser that removes the make-up remover. Then proceed by dabbing the tonic and only then apply the mask.
2. Expose for too long
The common belief is that the more you leave the mask on, the more benefits you get. That's not true: when you leave the mask to act for longer than the package foresees, the risk is that it will dry out, even drying out the skin. It is therefore better to follow the time indicated by each mask.
3. Apply too many times
Depending on the type of mask, the frequency also changes: if the moisturizing ones can also be done twice a week, the purifying and exfoliating ones should be done less frequently from one to two times a month. The risk, when overdoing it, is that the skin is irritated and dehydrated. Always follow the instructions on the packaging!
4. Using your hands to apply face masks in cream
Another common mistake when it comes to face masks is using your hands to apply them. Although the temptation is strong, beauty experts suggest using a special sponge to reduce contact with germs and bacteria that carry impurities.
5. Choose the wrong product
Last but not least, it is important to choose the type of face mask that best suits your skin. This avoids side effects such as skin irritation and redness, not to mention clogged pores and blackheads.
