Celebrity couples who broke up in 2021

Love is eternal for as long as it lasts

Celebrity couples who broke up in 2021 Love is eternal for as long as it lasts

Nothing is forever. Grandmothers used to say it back in the day and Afterhours already sang it more than twenty years ago, when Manuel Agnelli was "Our Lord of Italian indie rock" and not the judge of X-Factor. Add the other popular motto "Love is eternal for as long as it lasts" and you have perhaps the only two sayings that will never be denied. Not even in 2021 and not even if you are a super famous, multi-million dollar star. Most love stories end sooner or later. It can happen after years of marriage, as happened between Kim and Kanye who said goodbye after four children and 7 years together, or after a few months as between Pete Davidson and Phoebe Dynevor. Other times the news of the breakup arrives like a flash of open sky lightning, tearing the glossy perfection told by social media, as between Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik or between Dua Lipa and Anwar Hadid

G-club reviews the love affairs that ended in the last year with a roundup of the celebrity couples who split up in 2021. Which one has broken your heart?

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

They are long gone the days when the two cooed like doves and glue fans in front of the images of the lavish wedding in Florence, he in tuxedo she in long mermaid dress, both by Givenchy. After seven years of marriage, four children and endless rumors that anticipated the crisis, Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from Kanye West. Although the two are no longer a couple, they continue to collaborate as co-parents and support their respective careers. This is mostly done by Kim who took the stage (dressed as a bride) with her ex-husband at the Donda listing presentation party and, more recently, during the People's Choice Awards thanked Kanye for helping to make her a fashion icon. Although it seems that between the two there is still affection or, at least, mutual esteem, both Kim and Kanye are dating other people: Pete Davidson and a model named Vinetria. No regrets about the divorce, even if according to some sources West would like to win back his ex-wife. Will he do so?

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik

They met in 2015, on the set of Malik's video, Pillow Talks. Rumors about their love began to circulate just a few months after the post-American Music Awards party hosted by Justin Bieber, and their first official public outing came at the 2016 Met Gala. They broke up a first time in March 2018. Then in January 2020 there was a reunion, followed by the birth of Khai in September. Everything seemed to be going well when, last October, Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik broke up. The news came as a surprise, following an alleged dispute between the former One Direction and Yolanda Hadid. A very bad epilogue for a relationship that, although on/off, made many fans of the couple dream.

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes

Watching them in social snaps strolling with the dog or smooching at basketball matches, they seemed like a close-knit, supercute couple. And, probably, they still are. Even though they're no longer in love and officially separated at the beginning of November this year. Giving fans the news on IG of their breakup, which came after a long friendship and a two-year romance, they wrote: "Hi guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends". And, perhaps for the first time in the breakup statements of two celebrities, we have no doubt that these words are true.

Kaia Gerber and Jacob Elordi

This is bad timing. Just a few weeks after sharing the red carpet at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Opening Gala, their first public outing as a couple, Kaia Gerber and Jacob Elordi have split. The decision, taken by mutual agreement, would be the consequence of distance and their respective work commitments. The image that we will remain of the star of Euphoria and the model? He dressed as Elvis and she as Priscilla Presley for Halloween 2020.

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez

Together, peeking at social snaps with their respective children, they looked like the spot of the perfect extended family, where everyone gets along and loves each other. Instead, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have parted ways. The news came in April, after four years of relationship and an engagement sealed by a marriage proposal on the beach in the Bahamas and an emerald-cut diamond solitaire between 10 and 20 carats. Rumors claim that the main cause of the split are the infidelities of the former sportsman that led to a climate of mistrust between the two and differences exacerbated by the lockdown. True or not, it doesn't matter. The only positive aspect of the breakup with Rodriguez and that it opened the way for the return of the Bennifers.

Dua Lipa and Anwar Hadid

It's coming up to be a single Christmas at the Hadid household. After Gigi and Zayn, Anwar and Dua Lipa have also broken up. Officially a couple since the singer's 24th birthday, their story, chronicled by a series of supercute selfies, appeared to be going strong, even during the lockdown. Their typical day? "Wake up around 9:00, 9:30, shower, get dressed, have a bit of breakfast. Take the dog out on a really nice long walk, maybe do some yoga, make some lunch, hang out, watch a movie, play with the animals." All very easy and idyllic, too bad it's over (apparently because of the distance due to too many work commitments).

Zoë Kravitz and Karl Glusman

They were married on June 19, 2019 in the Parisian mansion of Lenny Kravitz, in front of a guest group full of stars, from Lisa Bonet with husband Jason Momoa to the entire cast of Big little Lies. He in a tuxedo, she in an Alexander Wang mini dress inspired by Audrey Hepburn's look in Funny Face. Then, about a year after the wedding, Zoë Kravitz filed for divorce from Karl Glusman, marking the end of a couple, at least looking at their streetstyle shots, with a very high rate of coolness. In recent months, Zoë has moved on and started a relationship with her colleague Channing Tatum.

Pete Davidson and Phoebe Dynevor

Okay, maybe they weren't the most memorable couple of the century, and given the SNL comedian's serial dater status, the epilogue could have easily been predicted, but there were those who already believed that Pete Davidson and Phoebe Dynevor would be living together in London.  Instead, after only five months together, the Bridgerton star and the U.S. artist broke up in April 2021. Although the two never made their brief romance official, we are left with shots of their PDA on the set of the Younger series and in the stands at Wimbledon.

Elon Musk and Grimes

After three years and a son together with the unpronounceable name, X Æ A-Xii, Elon Musk and Grimes told Page Six: "We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms." The official reasons for the breakup are, once again, mutual work commitments that keep Elon and Grimes apart for long periods of time. While there are no rumors of new flirtations yet, the singer ironically admitted that she has post-breakup plans for the future and that she imagines settling on one of Jupiter's moons to create a "lesbian space community."

Shia LaBeouf and Margaret Qualley

Like Pete Davidson, Shia LaBeouf also has a reputation as a serial dater. Among his most recent girlfriends has been Margaret Qualley. Apparently, the two actors fell in love during the filming of Love Me Like You Hate Me, a song by Rainsford (stage name of Rainey Qualley, Margaret's sister). Viewed in hindsight, the video, which chronicles a couple's emotional journey from falling in love to crisis, seems almost like a prophecy of what happened. After a few months of dating, documented by several paparazzi shots of the couple jogging, Margaret said goodbye to Shia. The cause? Qualley has distanced himself from the boyfriend after his two exes, FKA twigs and Sia, have accused him of physical and psychological abuse.
