"The Kardashians" are coming back on screens with a reality
The teaser and everything we know about Hulu's new project
January 3rd, 2022
2022 marks a new beginning for the Kardashian-Jenner clan. After 14 years and 20 seasons, last June aired the last episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, leaving orphaned millions of fans who grew up spying on every moment of the life of the most popular family in America. A departure from the cameras so celebrated by magazines, but very short, because Kim, Kourtney, Khloé, Kendall, Kylie and mom Kris are already about to return with a new show that will be broadcast by Hulu.
When the countdown to the new year ends, the countdown to the new show begins.
With these few words on New Year's Day, the U.S. broadcaster unveiled the first teaser of the new ducu-series, simply titled The Kardashians.
In the images, you can see an evening dress, a dizzying pair of transparent platforms and Kim in a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier outfit from Spring/Summer 2004 that together with the sisters wishes everyone a Happy New Year. No other details, nor announcement on the format (which still remains top secret) or on the release date. Little information about the project comes from tweets and various interviews given by the protagonists at the end of KUWTK. In May 2021, for example, speaking about The Kardashians in front of the audience of the Disney Upfronts Kris Jenner said:
This is the next chapter. In the new show, you’ll see us evolving as a family, fans want us to be who we are and since moment one, they’ve been emotionally invested in our show just like we are. The fans will love seeing us continue the journey. I can’t say much about what’s coming but spoiler, we’re going to look fabulous and everyone’s going to watch.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Kim revealed that the family will retain editing rights to the new show, which is part of a multi-year deal to "create global content" exclusively for the Disney-owned streaming service. While, as for the content, the SKIMS founder anticipated that ample space will be given to the careers and business ventures of the leading ladies and not just their love lives. Some anonymous sources have revealed to several magazines that the format of the show will be "more elegant" than the previous one, "almost political" and that great attention will be given to Kim's path as a lawyer. But don't panic, because Kim has assured that the "silly sides" will continue to be featured.
If by rewatching the episodes of KUWTK we get a picture of what the Kardashians were like, with Kourtney weighing the pros and cons of staying with ex Scott Disick and Kylie Jenner going from naughty teenager to established businesswoman and mom to Stormi, in the new show we'll see everything that's happening to these very popular women these days. It's easy to assume that they will talk about Kim and Kanye's divorce, maybe the new relationship with Pete Davidson, Kourtney and Travis Baker's engagement, but also about Kylie's second pregnancy. Similarly, it is almost certain that in addition to Kim, Kourtney, Khloé, Kendall, Kylie and Kris, will also appear regulars of the family as Travis Scott, Disick, the children of the Kardashian-Jenner. All that remains to be known is the release date of The Kardashians. Khloé gave a little hint about that during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, stating that the show could debut "soon":
I think in a few months, either end of January, early February. That's the beauty of Hulu, we're streaming, and we get to have a much quicker turn around than previously. We're really excited.
