Fondazione Sozzani and Vestiaire Collective join forces for circular fashion
Anna Piaggi' exposition evolves for Men's Fashion Week 22-23
January 14th, 2022
The vintage resale giant joins the curatorship of the Sozzani Foundation to populate its spaces, a stone’s throw from the Milanese it-place 10 Corso Como, with the first creations of Comme des Garçons, Maison Margiela and Azzedine Alaïa, covering a period of time from 1996 to 2010. Volumes, patchworks and masterful design are the vectors of the inspiration that Vestiaire Collective wants to use to bring them closer to circular fashion. A macramé spaghetti dress with a heart-shaped bodice by Comme des Garçons of 1996 and patchwork creations combined with red sequined brocades from the spring 2010 fashion show by Rei Kawakubo will be among the pieces of the collection that can be visited to the public from the date of inauguration of 17 January (in the context of Men’s Fashion Week) to 27 February, donated by the Sozzani Foundation and the Cultural Association Anna Piaggi, the latter established by Alberto Piaggi, to perpetuate the legacy of the photographer and journalist so loved by Karl Lagerfeld.
The team-work of the two institutions with Vestiarie combines archival fashion with the concept of sustainable purchases and value, activating a mechanism that continues the strategy of the re-commerce of fashion towards an increasingly high target, as confirmed by co-founder Sophie Hersan,
"For us at Vestiaire, the fundamental goal is to guide people through a positive change in the fashion world [...] We aim to stimulate our community and to unveil new perspectives for circular fashion"
The garments exhibited will also be available for purchase, and the proceeds will support both the Sozzani Foundation and the Cultural Association Anna Piaggi, founded respectively in 2016 and 2013, both dedicated to the promotion of art and culture with exhibitions and events. The Sozzani Foundation, for example, exhibits today "Anna Piaggi: Illustrations by Karl Lagerfeld", a retrospective of the sketches depicting Piaggi that the multidash Chanel couturier has collected over the years, to visit absolutely.
"Our heritage is our culture. Enhancing the heritage of fashion and helping to raise awareness is the future", said Franca Sozzani, and his will continues to live in initiatives like this.
