Bella Hadid will debut as an actress
The model will play a role in the Hulu TV series "Ramy"
April 1st, 2022
Bella Hadid is entering the world of TV series. Following in the footsteps of many of her colleagues such as Milla Jovovich, Cara Delevigne or Hoyeon Jung, the model has decided to try her hand at acting. The news comes from Variety according to which Bella will have a recurring role in the third season of Ramy. While no details about the character Bella will play have been revealed at this time, we do know that the Hulu comedy is based on the life of comedian Ramy Youssef, who stars and co-writes the show, and follows a Muslim millennial as he tries to balance his religious beliefs with life in a modern world. Specifically in the new episodes, "Ramy abandons his spiritual journey, devoting himself instead to himself and his uncle's diamond business", while the rest of his family is "forced to confront a life dedicated to worldly concerns".
The model had previously confessed to The Telegraph that she wanted to act:
"Working this much is going to give me a better platform to do bigger things in the world...I need to start taking acting classes and figure out a way to memorize things better. But yes, the Oscar one day."
Despite her ambitious dreams, the choice to make her debut in an established, critically acclaimed but not hugely popular series seems like a strategy that could prove far-sighted. Bella, apart from in front of the camera or on the catwalk, has only two "acting" experiences behind her: one in the reality show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, where she was simply herself, and the other in the music video for In The Night by The Weekend, who was her boyfriend at the time. So, for her first real role, she chose to join the cast of a smart, subtly humorous series about a cross-section similar in some ways to her own background. Like Ramy, Bella represents the first American generation of an immigrant family, being the daughter of a Dutch mother and a Palestinian father, as she also recently recalled to Vogue:
"It’s not to say that I didn’t have a very privileged upbringing. But my parents are immigrants who came here and worked for everything they had. I always knew the value of a dollar."
Bella will probably also draw on her and the Hadid family's personal experiences to tackle this new on-screen career, but we'll have to wait a little longer to find out because Ramy's third season is still a work in progress.
