Dua Lipa is reportedly about to join the DC Extended Universe as the Lady of Magic, Zatanna Zatara. According to a fan account on Twitter, Dua Lipa is reportedly discussing the role with Warner Bros. for the Zatanna film adaptation alongside Oscar-winning British actress, screenwriter, and director Emerald Fennell, famous for her black comedy thriller "Promising Young Woman" (2020), who was announced as the screenwriter for the DC film in 2021.
According to Fennel, the character by her nature would offer possibilities for making a film with dark undertones, due to the character's dark roots in the comics. "There's a lot about her that seems like it could be really, really interesting. And it will be an opportunity to make something really, really dark. And that appeals to me, to do something big and scary. I love those things."
The daughter of magician John Zatara and mystic Sindella, Zatanna's career as a stage magician soon gave way to using her authentic magic as a hero alongside Hal Jordan and Barry Allen. Over the years Zatanna has become one of DC's most prominent sorceresses, eventually finding an indelible place in Justice League Dark. The film has no release date yet, but the premise of seeing Dua Lipa in a Versace FW22-like latex suit or the Mugler catsuit that accompanied her on her Future Nostalgia Global Tour is many. Considering that the singer became a global sensation after the release of her self-titled debut album in 2017, three years after signing with Warner Bros Records, the record label would bridge with the eponymous Studios to lead Dua toward an acting career given her recently announced role in the Barbie movie and Argylle by Matthew Vaughn.
