Rihanna is pregnant with her second child
The revelation during her Super Bowl Halftime Show performance
February 13th, 2023
Fire! That's how you could sum up Rihanna's performance during the Super Bowl Halftime Show. She descended from a floating platform that hovered above the heads of fans at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Dressed all in red and facing the camera, she unzipped her jumpsuit and revealed her baby bump to let the world know that she was expecting her second child with her partner A$AP Rocky, just 9 months after the birth of her first child in May 2022. She had mentioned that the live show would be a family affair and that she was "thinking about bringing someone", and that's kind of what happened.
No big-name guest, just a group of white-clad dancers, the hoods of their sweatshirts pulled over their heads and their sunglasses obscuring their views. The stage was all reserved for Riri and she made the most of it. She grabbed the attention and delivered a rousing show that summed up 17 years of her career in 13 minutes. Those who had hoped to hear a few new songs may have been disappointed, but everyone else danced and sang along with Rihanna to the notes of her biggest hits: from Umbrella to Bitch Better Have My Money, from Rude Boy to Diamonds, from We Found Love to Wild Thoughts.
Whereas she had opted for casual jeans and a shocking pink long down jacket that showed off her bare belly to announce her first pregnancy despite the snow, this time, in keeping with the demands of the gig, Rihanna opted for an all-bright red and decidedly luxurious outfit. Riri wore a silk jersey jumpsuit with a sculptural bodice from Loewe Spring/Summer 2023 collection, paired with a pair of MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross Low sneakers in the same colors. The look was embellished by three vintage diamond brooches by Joseph Saidian & Sons, as well as jewelry and a watch by Messika. During the live show, she added two outerwear pieces designed by Pieter Mullier of Alaïa. The first was a padded scarf, while to Diamonds she wore a red leather maxi jacket with integrated gloves, which many interpreted as a tribute to Andre Leon Talley, who had a similar jacket by Norma Kamali.
