Christmas 2024: Gift ideas for mom
How to make the most important woman (for better or worse) in our life happy
December 5th, 2023
Christmas is still about three weeks away. Luckily, you caught yourself in time and got your gift anxiety under control by planning ahead and ticking off all the names on the list. At least we hope so for your sake. But maybe you're still missing one really important person: your mum. The problem? Okay, you know her taste well, but you've been giving her presents for ages, and on 25 December the interesting ideas are once again falling by the wayside. You made her wickedly colourful drawings when you were little, bought her perfume, a food processor, a book, a jumper, gourmet panettone and for Christmas 2024? Don't panic, G-Club comes to your rescue with gift ideas for mum in different price ranges to prevent the most important woman in your life from putting you on the naughty list when opening presents.
Under 100 euros:
LED lamps for home plants and vegetable garden
Would our mum like to have a house full of lush plants or perhaps create a mini garden indoors, but she doesn't have green fingers? Then let's support her with the help of technology. There are many different lamps on the market in different sizes and price ranges that simulate the light and warmth of the sun and encourage plant growth and flowering. So maybe next Christmas we'll be eating the cherry tomatoes that Mum grew or have her begonias as table decorations.
A diptyque candle to scent the house
Okay. If our mum is a badass who doesn't rack her brains for months to find the perfect gift, but every time she unwraps something she thanks us with a disgusted look on her face, we might as well waste no time and opt for something simple like a scented candle from Diptyque. Perhaps vanilla, a classic scent that everyone likes and that goes well with the Christmas spirit, but also with the other months of the year. At least as long as we stay in the family, it will help mask the smell of soffritto and pets.
An experience: basic kokedama workshop
For the mum who wants to train her green thumb, the right gift could also be an experience to share with us or a friend. Wild Milano offers a basic Kokedama workshop. This technique, which originated in Japan, involves growing plants by wrapping grass with moss and rope. The final effect is that of a moss bead, hence the name koke (moss) tama (ball). On various dates, you will learn which plants and materials are best suited to this technique and how to create a small green planet step by step.
A workshop: Learn to cook ramen
Mum is the queen of the cooker, but does she fancy homemade noodles and would like to try out the culinary tradition of another country? Then the "Learn to cook ramen" course from La Cucina Italiana is just the thing for her. There are several dates available, the cost remains under 100 euros and during the course you will learn the art of making chūka men noodles, the base of the broth, the soup (shoyu, miso, shio) and the fillings with boiled pork chāshū, hard-boiled eggs, naruto, chopped spring onions, bean sprouts, chilli puree, nori seaweed and corn. Is your mouth watering just thinking about the result?
A mother-son/daughter concert: Ed Sheeran
On Saturday 8 June and Sunday 9 June 2024, Ed Sheeran comes to Italy for the only Italian dates of his tour. The British singer will perform at the Lucca Summer Festival with a double show in a row, as the first date was already sold out in advance. Many fans can't wait to sing along to hits like Shape of You, Bad Habirs or Shivers at the top of their voices, and what if we were sitting in the audience with our mum? A great experience and a memory we will talk about for a long time with a smile on our faces.
Over 100 euros:
A beauty kit by Aesop
If anyone deserves special pampering, it's definitely our mum. Aesop's Majestic Melodies Hand and Body Treatment is designed to gently cleanse, nourish and fragrance the skin from head to toe. It contains the Resurrection Aromatique Hand Cream and Soap with its delicate formulation based on orange, mandarin, cedar, rosemary and lavender oils, but also the Geranium Leaf Body Cleanser, an invigorating cleansing gel with a blend of geranium leaves, mandarin peel and bergamot peel. The set is rounded off with the Rejuvenate Intensive Body Balm 100 ml, a rich moisturising cream with macadamia nut and sandalwood oil, which is massaged in from neck to toe to soften and nourish the skin after showering and drying off.
A ceramic vase made by Esperia by Bagni Luisa
For some time now, Bagni Luisa, Luisa Bertoldo's brand, has expanded its range to include ceramics handmade by its eclectic founder in her workshop in Esperia: Cups, plates, knick-knacks, all original, colourful, cool and unique pieces that make our homes special. The latest vase collection, perfect as a Christmas gift and to unwrap for mum, is called The Circle and is a collaboration with VGO Associates. It is inspired by gods, monsters and natural mums, created from rough, unpolished clay softened by maternal curves, anatomical votives, hands and hugs.
Over 150 euros:
Barbour x Ganni scarf
Tartan is a classic, especially in a scarf version. This year, Barbour and GANNI solve the Christmas problem with a collaboration that synthesises Barbour's heritage inspired by the English countryside and GANNI's Scandinavian character. In particular, the tartan scarf in super-soft lambswool with a double logo badge at the end is just the gift to add a touch of timeless style to our mum's look. Add a nice handwritten note and a hug and remind her that the scarf will keep her warm even when we're not around.
Pyjamas, but chic and signed by Chimaera
How many times have we found pyjamas under the tree and our reaction wasn't exactly enthusiastic Perhaps we just didn't have the right set. It's better for mum to choose nice and comfy pyjamas that she can wear outside the bedroom if she wants. The solution is pieces from Chimera, an Italian and eco-conscious sleepwear brand that makes its pyjamas from upcycled cotton and fabrics from leftovers.
A Lil Milan jewel
Giving a piece of jewellery as a gift is never a mistake. For Christmas 2024, why not opt for a Made in Italy brand and choose a minimalist and elegant model with a mix of gold and pearls? The solution is the Sweet'n'Sour choker by Lil Milan, which with its understated chic is perfect to wear throughout the day and perhaps combine with other necklaces or bijoux, as if it were a little talisman that protects our mum but also makes her even more beautiful.
