Miu Miu and Art Basel Paris announce Tales & Tellers

At the heart of Miu Miu and Miuccia Prada has always been a deep fascination with the lives of women, their experiences, stories, and narratives. The brand connects fashion and culture: in 2011, Miu Miu launched the Women's Tales series of short films, providing talented female directors with a platform to showcase their vision of vanity and femininity in all its forms. Since 2021, Miu Miu's fashion shows have become a forum for dialogue with female artists through installations and videos, exploring a wide range of ideas but always focused on the understanding of femininity and the interpretation and decoding of the contemporary world.

Miu Miu and Art Basel Announce Tales & Tellers

This year, Miu Miu, as the official partner of the Public Program at Art Basel Paris, announces Tales & Tellers, an important project that will take place at the Palais d’Iéna - home to the French Economic, Social, and Environmental Council, and also the setting for the brand's fashion shows. The project is conceived by interdisciplinary artist Goshka Macuga and curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose, director of the MACBA, Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.

What Does Tales & Tellers Mean?

The title Tales & Tellers reflects the transmission of knowledge, the expression of meaning, and the sharing of both real and fantastical stories. Women are given the opportunity to give voice to their experiences, weaving tales, recounting history, and revealing the mysteries of an inscrutable future. The concept of the teller, part storyteller, part seer, is that of a life interpreter, capable of offering their vision, giving testimony, and reflecting society. Tales & Tellers brings together multiversal narratives, each carrying its own trail of wisdom. Every collaborative project and short film created for Miu Miu Women’s Tales, along with a selection of videos from the brand's artistic presentations starting from Spring/Summer 2022, is represented by a character, hero or anti-hero, drawn directly from the works themselves. These characters, in turn, become the scenic guardians of the narrative. Reinterpreted by professional actors and accompanied by original film projections, they multiply the stories told, reenacting fragments of the narrative alongside the original. These guardians, interpreters of the self and of others, are to be seen as protective figures, whose essential role is to safeguard the memories and sequences of their own and others’ stories, while also making the narrative accessible. Thus, in Tales & Tellers, the empty space of the Palais d’Iéna transforms into a flow of everyday experiences, both real and fantastical, shared by the storytellers and each member of the audience who will interact with them.
