All about Eugenio Franceschini, the new love interest of Emily in Paris From career to personal life, via his role in the series starring Lily Collins

Since September 12th, the second part of the fourth season of Emily in Paris is available on Netflix, picking up where the story left off last August. Emily has rekindled her relationship with Gabriel, who has just seen his dream of earning a Michelin star fade, and remains unaware that his ex-girlfriend Camille is not pregnant. Meanwhile, Mindy and her band prepare for Eurovision, and the Agence Grateau team faces professional and personal challenges. What will happen next? In the new episodes, the character played by Lily Collins finds herself once again in a complicated romantic situation. Still, a chance encounter on the ski slopes with a charming Italian may change everything. Emily and Marcello spend a magical evening in Paris, and she accepts his invitation to go to Rome. Thus, the PR professional finds herself in Italy, living her very own Roman holiday, filled with Vespa rides, strolls, dining out, and the classic coin toss at the Trevi Fountain. But who is Marcello? How will their love story unfold? And who is the actor playing this new character? Here’s everything we know.

Eugenio Franceschini is Marcello Muratori

The new Italian addition, who will steal Emily Cooper's heart and make her forget about Chef Gabriel, at least for a while, is played by Eugenio Franceschini. Born in Verona on September 19, 1991, the actor, son of puppeteers and commedia dell'arte performers, grew up between the Veneto city and Spain. His parents instilled in him a passion for acting from a young age, and it was with their theater company that he first stepped onto the stage. At 18, dreaming of becoming an actor, and on the advice of his father Gianni, he moved to Rome to attend the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, where he studied acting with Giancarlo Giannini. His big-screen debut came in 2012 with the role of Pietro in Una famiglia perfetta by Paolo Genovese, followed by roles in films like Bianca come il latte, rossa come il sangue by Giacomo Campiotti.

Although relatively recent, Franceschini’s career includes a wide range of projects. In 2013, he appeared in films like La luna on Turin by Davide Ferrario, Maldamore by Angelo Longoni, and Sapore di te by Carlo Vanzina, a romantic comedy for which Eugenio was awarded the Guglielmo Biraghi Prize by the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists. After early supporting roles, his breakthrough came in 2015 with Fango e gloria - La Grande Guerra, a documentary by Leonardo Tiberi about the Italian Unknown Soldier. In Io che amo solo te and its sequel La cena di Natale, both directed by Marco Ponti, he shared the screen with Michele Placido, Laura Chiatti, and Riccardo Scamarcio. On the set of I Medici, where he played the 15th-century politician and military figure Ormanno degli Albizzi, he met his current partner, with whom he had a child in January 2018. In the meantime, he has continued his work in theater with various experiences, including the play Prima del silenzio, where he shared the stage with Leo Gullotta.

Eugenio Franceschini joins the cast of Emily in Paris 4

When he learned that he might be cast in Emily in Paris 4, Eugenio was 3000 meters up in the snow in Trentino, in the Dolomites, shooting another TV series and unaware of the immense success of the Netflix show. It was his female colleagues on set in the mountains who made him realize the hype around Emily Cooper & co. and the importance of the offer he had received. So, the actor sent a self-tape to Darren Star and Lily Collins. Then, after a call with the director and actress and an audition in Paris with Lily Collins, Franceschini secured the role of Marcello. What does he love most about his character? The respect and humanity he shows towards everyone, as well as the beautiful relationship he has with his family. The bonus? The outfits created by Marylin Fitoussi, which, according to the costume designer, make him "irresistible, embodying understated luxury with a color palette inspired by Rome."

Who is Marcello Muratori and what is his role in Emily in Paris 4?

Emily Cooper meets Marcello Muratori on the ski slopes, at a time when her relationship with Gabriel is in crisis. The two spend an unforgettable evening in the Ville Lumière and then fly to Rome. Meanwhile, the young American seems to have definitively left behind the beloved chef and is ready to start a new relationship or, at least, enjoy a new fling. But who is this charming Italian who is winning her over, giving her a Roman holiday reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn? Marcello hails from Solitano, a small town in the province of Rome, where his family owns an important cashmere company, which Sylvie wants to acquire as a client for the Grateau agency. He is wealthy but doesn’t flaunt it, preferring to be simple, kind, well-mannered, and never excessive. To win Emily over, he acts as her guide in the Eternal City, with Vespa rides through ancient imperial ruins, a coin toss at the Trevi Fountain, and gelato among Rome’s monuments. Will he succeed? Or will Emily return to Gabriel? Watch the new episodes of Emily in Paris 4 to find out.
